W . said , as the Master was absent , on his wedding tour , he had sot Bro . W . J . E . Dobson , Master of Lodgo Dramatic , to act as R . W . M . John Harley S . W ., Colin McKenzie J . W ., R . McLean Secretarv , R . MoKie acting S . D ., Jas . Harley J D ., J . Pool I . G ., J . Minwich Tyler . Business—The Lodge having been

duly opened by Bro . Dobson , a petition was presented from Mr . Stewart Harmer , engineer , and ns he was about to sail on Mondav , it was voted a case of emergency . Bro . Dobson then initiated the candidate , in his usual able manner . Having opened the Lodgo in the 2 nd degree , he then resigned tho gavel to Bro . G . W . Wheeler of 73 , who passed , and afterwards raised the candidate to tbe sublime decree . Thereafter the Wardens proposed the thanks of the Lodge to Bros . Dobson and Wheeler for their services on this occasion .

Commercial Lodge , No . 360 . —This Lodge held an emer . gency meeting on Friday , the 28 th April , at their own Hall , 30 Hopestreet , Glasgow . Present—Bros . J . Lamb D . Clapton Chapter of Improvement , No . 1365 . —The above Chapter of Improvement was inaugurated on Wednesday evening last ( 3 rd May ) , under the presidency of Comp . John Ramsey P . Z . Preceptor , supported by Comps . C . R . Miles and J . Hobbs , as H and J . respectively , at the White Hart Tavern . Clapton , and was well

attended by the R , A . Masons residing in the neighbourhood . The meetings will now continue to be held regularly every Wednesday evening , at 7 . 30 p . m ., and , no doubt , will be numerously supported , and prove a great success , there being no other Chapter of Instruction within some considerable distance . All 11 . A . Musons who can rnakoit convenient to attend are cordially invited .

The report of the Committee in reference to tho establishment of a Benevolent Fund in connection with the Lodge was then disenssed , and we are pleased to be able to announce that it may be considered settled , as tho details are to be referred

back to the Committee , and will no doubt bo accepted at the next meeting of the Lodge . Several propositions wero then handed in , and the Lodse was closed in order . A slight repast followed , at which the W . M . presided in gonial manner , tho customary toasts wero duly honoured . The announcement that the last train for London would start in ton minutes brought forth a call for the Tyler , whose toast concluded a most pleasant evening .

Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction , No . 1507 . —This Lodge held its usual meeting on Friday , the 28 th ult ., at the Metropolitan Club , King ' s Cross . Present—Bros . Willing W . M ., Berrie S . W ., Kingham J . W ., Fowler S . D ., Side J . W ., H . Stiles I . G ., Adama P . G . P . Preceptor , W . M . Stiles Secretary ; and Bros . Scales , Child , Little , Cox , & o . The Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes

were rend and confirmed . Lodge opened in 2 nd and 3 rd degrees , and Bro . Little raised to degree of M . M ., in a most impressive manner . Tho 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd sections of the 3 rd lecture wero worked by Bros . Adams P . G . P . Preceptor and Willing P . M . Treasurer , in a very able manner . Lodge was then closed down , and Bro . Berrie appointed W . M . for ensuing mcetinsr . A sincere vote of condolence was

accorded Bro . Cheek on the loss of his much beloved wife . As a mark of the esteem in which Bro . Adams , the veteran Preceptor of this Lodgo of Instruction , is regarded , one of the members expressed his pleasure and intention of presenting each member with a photograph of Brother Adams , this was received with great delight by the brethren , who naturally will be proud to possess the likeness of so great and good an ornament to the Craft . Lodge closed in due form .

Chaucer Lodge , No . 1540 . —This new Lodge , which is rapidly increasing in numbers , and can boast of having among its members many brethren who are thoroughly proficient in their duties , met on the 26 th ult ., at tho Bridge Houso Hotel , Southwark . Bro . J . H . Wilkins P . M . 73 , in tho absence of the W . M ., Bro . T . Sabine , opened tho Lodgo . He was supported by Bro . J . C . Mason S . W ., E .

J . Stidolp h I . W ., VV . J . Kemp S . D ., H . Faija C . E . I . G ., A . J . Hawkes D . C , H . Wright P . M . acting as Deacou . The Lodge was opened , and the minutes were confirmed . Bros . H . C . Harrison , H . Black , II . Diack , and E . Sloper , were , after showing their proficiency , passed to the 2 nd degree , in a very perfect manner . The W . M . having arrived from Brighton , then occupied the chair , and initiated Mr . H .

Levy into the Order . Bro . H . Faija stated his intention to act as Steward at the Anniversary Festival of the Girls' School , and enlisted the sympathies of the brethren on behalf of that noblo Institution . Bro . E . S . Stidolph J . W . nobly responded , by placing his name down for £ 10 10 s . Bro . Wilkins used his eloquence in the cause of the Charity , and urged the brethren to make the Lodge a Life Governor ,

in the name of the W . M . for the time being , and we are pleased to announce that ho succeeded , so that this young Lodge is now in possession of its first Life Governorship for tho Girls' School . The Lodge was then closed , there was no banquet , the day falling on that fixed for Grand Festival . The Visitors were Bros . T . 0 . Watts S . D . 1381 , J . Davis 1309 , W . Lane P . M . 28 , T . City of Westminster Lodge , No . 1563 . —The regular meeting of this new Lodge was held on the 27 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Cafe Royal , Air-street , Regent-street . Bros . B . W . Swallow W . M ., Rev . P . M . Holden P . G . Chaplain Middlesex S . W ., E . White J . W ., C . A . Cottebrune P . G . P . Treasurer , E . J . Scott P . M . Secretary , B . Turner J . D ., Willis as I . G ., J . G . Shand D . C , and Bros . Emanuel ,

Monng , J . Wass , Waugh , & c . The Lodge was opened and the minutes wero confirmed . Bros . Pike , Day , Wass , Riley and Bonhara were passed to tho 2 nd degree . Bros . James , Irving and Townloy 1351 were raised to the 3 rd degree , and Messrs . J . P . Dicker , A . Symonds and E . Hardwick ( son of the coroner for Marylebone ) wero duly initiated into the Order . The working was excellently rendered by

the W . M . Bro . C . A . Cottebrune P . G . P . then stated that the W . M ., one of the founders of tho Lodge , had consented to act as Steward for the Girls' School at the next Anniversary Festival , and proposed that the sum of £ 10 10 s should be given from the funds to be placed on his list . This was seconded by the Rov . P . M . Holden S . W . and carried . The latter brother called the attention of the

brethren to the bye-laws with regard to the Benevolent Fund , whereby 5 por cent , of all initiation , joining fees and subscriptions are to be set apart by the Treasurer for the purpose of forming a Benevolent Fund . These bye-laws are a pattern worthy of imitation , as they contain full particulars of the threo Masonic Charities , whereby every brother on his initiation can at onco make himself acquainted with

the groundwork on which our Institutions are framed . The Lodge was then closed , and au excellent banquet was supplied by Bro . Nickels . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given . Tho W . M ., in proposing the to ist of the M . W . G . M ., alluded to his enthusiastic reception in the East . All would be pleased to see him ag ; iin amongst them , and no class would bo ready to give him a more hearty recep .

M . next proposed the health of the Pro Grand Master , and in giving the toast of the Deputy Grand Master said , he was proud to see three Grand Officers present . Bro . Hyde Pullen P . G . S . B . returned thanks . He was one who signed the warrant for tho formation of the Lodge , he was pleased to see ihe Lodge flourishing , and ho was gratified at seeing the able work .

Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction , No . 1507 . —This Lodge held its usual meeting on Friday , the 28 th ult ., at the Metropolitan Club , King ' s Cross . Present—Bros . Willing W . M ., Berrie S . W ., Kingham J . W ., Fowler S . D ., Side J . W ., H . Stiles I . G ., Adama P . G . P . Preceptor , W . M . Stiles Secretary ; and Bros . Scales , Child , Little , Cox , & o . The Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes

were rend and confirmed . Lodge opened in 2 nd and 3 rd degrees , and Bro . Little raised to degree of M . M ., in a most impressive manner . Tho 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd sections of the 3 rd lecture wero worked by Bros . Adams P . G . P . Preceptor and Willing P . M . Treasurer , in a very able manner . Lodge was then closed down , and Bro . Berrie appointed W . M . for ensuing mcetinsr . A sincere vote of condolence was

accorded Bro . Cheek on the loss of his much beloved wife . As a mark of the esteem in which Bro . Adams , the veteran Preceptor of this Lodgo of Instruction , is regarded , one of the members expressed his pleasure and intention of presenting each member with a photograph of Brother Adams , this was received with great delight by the brethren , who naturally will be proud to possess the likeness of so great and good an ornament to the Craft . Lodge closed in due form .

Chaucer Lodge , No . 1540 . —This new Lodge , which is rapidly increasing in numbers , and can boast of having among its members many brethren who are thoroughly proficient in their duties , met on the 26 th ult ., at tho Bridge Houso Hotel , Southwark . Bro . J . H . Wilkins P . M . 73 , in tho absence of the W . M ., Bro . T . Sabine , opened tho Lodgo . He was supported by Bro . J . C . Mason S . W ., E .

J . Stidolp h I . W ., VV . J . Kemp S . D ., H . Faija C . E . I . G ., A . J . Hawkes D . C , H . Wright P . M . acting as Deacou . The Lodge was opened , and the minutes were confirmed . Bros . H . C . Harrison , H . Black , II . Diack , and E . Sloper , were , after showing their proficiency , passed to the 2 nd degree , in a very perfect manner . The W . M . having arrived from Brighton , then occupied the chair , and initiated Mr . H .

Levy into the Order . Bro . H . Faija stated his intention to act as Steward at the Anniversary Festival of the Girls' School , and enlisted the sympathies of the brethren on behalf of that noblo Institution . Bro . E . S . Stidolph J . W . nobly responded , by placing his name down for £ 10 10 s . Bro . Wilkins used his eloquence in the cause of the Charity , and urged the brethren to make the Lodge a Life Governor ,

in the name of the W . M . for the time being , and we are pleased to announce that ho succeeded , so that this young Lodge is now in possession of its first Life Governorship for tho Girls' School . The Lodge was then closed , there was no banquet , the day falling on that fixed for Grand Festival . The Visitors were Bros . T . 0 . Watts S . D . 1381 , J . Davis 1309 , W . Lane P . M . 28 , T . W . Adams 765 , Eev . T . W . Cave , and J . S . Sweasoy 1423 .

City of Westminster Lodge , No . 1563 . —The regular meeting of this new Lodge was held on the 27 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Cafe Royal , Air-street , Regent-street . Bros . B . W . Swallow W . M ., Rev . P . M . Holden P . G . Chaplain Middlesex S . W ., E . White J . W ., C . A . Cottebrune P . G . P . Treasurer , E . J . Scott P . M . Secretary , B . Turner J . D ., Willis as I . G ., J . G . Shand D . C , and Bros . Emanuel ,

Monng , J . Wass , Waugh , & c . The Lodge was opened and the minutes wero confirmed . Bros . Pike , Day , Wass , Riley and Bonhara were passed to tho 2 nd degree . Bros . James , Irving and Townloy 1351 were raised to the 3 rd degree , and Messrs . J . P . Dicker , A . Symonds and E . Hardwick ( son of the coroner for Marylebone ) wero duly initiated into the Order . The working was excellently rendered by

the W . M . Bro . C . A . Cottebrune P . G . P . then stated that the W . M ., one of the founders of tho Lodge , had consented to act as Steward for the Girls' School at the next Anniversary Festival , and proposed that the sum of £ 10 10 s should be given from the funds to be placed on his list . This was seconded by the Rov . P . M . Holden S . W . and carried . The latter brother called the attention of the

brethren to the bye-laws with regard to the Benevolent Fund , whereby 5 por cent , of all initiation , joining fees and subscriptions are to be set apart by the Treasurer for the purpose of forming a Benevolent Fund . These bye-laws are a pattern worthy of imitation , as they contain full particulars of the threo Masonic Charities , whereby every brother on his initiation can at onco make himself acquainted with

the groundwork on which our Institutions are framed . The Lodge was then closed , and au excellent banquet was supplied by Bro . Nickels . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given . Tho W . M ., in proposing the to ist of the M . W . G . M ., alluded to his enthusiastic reception in the East . All would be pleased to see him ag ; iin amongst them , and no class would bo ready to give him a more hearty recep .

M . next proposed the health of the Pro Grand Master , and in giving the toast of the Deputy Grand Master said , he was proud to see three Grand Officers present . Bro . Hyde Pullen P . G . S . B . returned thanks . He was one who signed the warrant for tho formation of the Lodge , he was pleased to see ihe Lodge flourishing , and ho was gratified at seeing the able work .
