ROTAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION . —The first meeting of the SteAvards , to carry out tbe approaching Festival on the Sth of February , in aid of this Institution , for aged Freemasons and their widows , held their first meeting at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Friday , Dec . 16 , Bro . Blake presiding . It was announced that the names of thirty-five Stewards had been received , ancl the Right Hon . Bro . Lord Methuen Avas chosen President of the Board of SteAvards
, Bros . Blake and Snell , A ^ ice-Presidents , Bro . Tomkins , G . T , Treasurer , ancl Bro . Goodman , Secretary . It is understood that the M . AV . G . M . the Ri ght Hon . the Earl of Zetland , will preside on the occasion . After making various preliminary- arrangements , the meeting was adjourned to the 13 th of January .
THE MASONIC ALMSHOUSES . — On Thursday , Dec . 15 , a feAV Brethren met at the Windmill Inn , Croydon Common , and presented to the aged Freemasons and widows of the Masonic almshouses , the proceeds of a benefit taken in their behalf at the Grecian Saloon , City-road , together witb the result of a subscri ption got up amongst tbe members of tbe Committee . The benefit was ( owing to tbe weather ) unsuccessful ; butafter ing all expensesthe sum of
, , pay , twenty-ei ght shillings w-as handed to each of the eighteen inmates , who were first regaled with a solid old English dinner by tbe Committee . Trifling as was the amount , it was felt to be most acceptable in the present inclement season . Bro . Biggs acted as Chairman , Bro . Perrin filling tbe office of Vice-Chairman ; Bro . Barrett , A ice-President of the Institutionvras present . After spending a leasant and
