, , in responding to tbe toast of his health , given by Bro . M . L . Jobling , feelingly referred to the pleasure be experienced in once more meeting tbe Brethren of NeAvcastle , after the dreadful visitation which the town had suffered . He dwelt at length upon the privation which bad been thereby caused , ancl upon the Masonic duty of relieving the distressed , and suggested , as a suitable thank-offering
and mark of gratitude for deliverance from the pestilence , that a collection should be made in aid of those , who have suffered by the epidemic . The sum of 14 Z . 10 s . was accordingly contributed by the Brethren present . Tbe evening Avore aAvay pleasautly , and the Brethren broke up at a seasonable hour , after a protracted period of business and enjoyment , the proceedings having been throughout conducted witb the most complete harmony iu the true fraternal spirit of Freemasonry .
NORTH WALES AND SALOP . SHREWSBURY . —The annual Provincial Grand Lodge for North AVales and Shropshire Avas held in Shrewsbury , on AVednesday , the 26 th October , 1853 . The Prov . G . M , Sir AV . AV . AVynn , Bart , M . P ., accompanied by LordMethuen , Prov . G . M . of AVilts , and attended by his Officers , arrived at the Lion Hotel , at 2 P . M ., together Avith several distinguished Masons from London , Lancashire , and Cheshire .
Immediately on the arrival of the Prov . G . 31 , a Craft Lodge Avas opened by Bro . G . Marriott , of the Fortitude and Old Cumberland Lodge , No . 12 , and of the St . John ' s Lodge , Admonton , Shropshire , No . 875 , Avhen Major P . B . Williams , and H . Fane , Esq , of the 79 th Highlanders , were duly admitted to a participation in the mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry . Previous to the ceremony of initiation , a procession , of the Pro- * . G . L . AA'as formed in the magnificent Assembly-room ofthe hotel , and thence proceeded to the Craft Lodge .
