METROPOLITAN MEETINGS . Egyptian Lodge ( No . 27 ) . —The installation meeting of this old established lodge was held on the 4 th ult ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street . The installation ceremony was most impressively performed b y Bro . R . Douglas Smith , who gave the usual addresses with marked effect . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , which was prepared by Bro . A .

Clemow in his best style , and ably served under the superintendence of his energetic manager , Bro . Evans . The loyal and Masonic toasts having been given and duly honoured , Bro . R . Douglas Smith , the I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M . " He said that he had known him for a verv long time in Masonry and other ways . They

had attended many lodges of instruction , and they had worked together . He felt sure that he would make one of the best Worshipful Masters the lodge had ever had , and in conclusion he wished him from his heart a prosperous and happy year of office . The toast was well received , as was the W . M . on rising to respond . He was much gratified at his reception , and

for the kind things said of him . He would endeavour to carry out the duties of his high office with credit to himself and the brethren . At this point Bro . W . M . Stiles , P . M ., entered the room , and was received with great enthusiasm , the brethren rising and giving him a hearty welcome as candidate for the office of Grand Treasurer for 1894 . Thc W . M . gave the toast of " The I . P . M ., " who , he

said , had had a successful year of office , and had had 12 initiates . His working of the ritual and of the installation was perfect , and thc members were honoured in having such a good workman . He left the chair with the best wishes of them all , and in presenting him with a Past Master ' s jewel , hoped that he might live for very many years to wear it .

Bro . R . Douglas Smith , on rising to respond , received an ovation . In a short , but eloquent , speech , he thanked the brethren for their kindness to him at all times , and for the honour they had conferred upon him that night . In giving the toast of "The Visitors , " the W . M . remarked that they had a goodly array , to whom he gave a hcartv welcome , making special mention of their old

friend , Bro . W . M . Stiles , a veteran in Masonry , and who was fitted in every way to hold the office of Grand Treasurer , whose name he coupled with Bro . Tickle and others to respond . Bro . Tickle , in reply , stated that it was an honour to have to respond to the toast . The working that night was done in a masterly manner , and the lodge was favoured in

having such efficient officers . He had been invited on many occasions , but that was the lirst opporlunity he had had of attending . All the Past Masters were old friends of his . He would leave to Bro . Stiles—one of their coming kings—to follow him . Bro . W . M . Stiles also responded . He was not able to get there earlier as he . had another Masonic engagement

that evening . He appreciated the kind remarks of the W . M . and Bro . Tickle . He was a frequent visitor to the lodge , in which he had many friends . For many reasons he was sanguine that at their next installation meeting he would have the high honour of addressing them as Grand Treasurer , and , in conclusion , he thanked the brethren for the great reception they had given him .

Bros . Needes , Longley , Hen Johnson , Grimes , and Doig also replied in suitable terms . " 'Ihe Past Masters , " "ihe Treasurer and Secretary , " and " The Officers " were next given , and dulv honoured , coupled with the name of the Secretary , Bro . Hale , P . M ., who replied in suitable terms . The Tyler ' s toast terminated the proceedings , and the W . M . is to be congratulated on the success of the happy

gathering . During the evening Bros . Symmons , Hangs , Doig , H . Broadway , and W . II . Squier vocally and otherwise entertained the brethren . Duke of Albany Lodge ( No . i 9 63 ) .-At the usual meeting of this lodge , which took place on Thursday , the iSth ult ., at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell , Bro . W . II . Jeffries , S . W . and W . M . elect , was installed

as W . M . for the ensuing year . There was a large muster of the brethren of the lodge and a good number of visiting brethren , including Bros . 6 . Everett , P . G . Treas . ; Perceval A Nairne , P . G . D . ; R . E . H . Gofiin , P . P . G . D . C . ; Wilkins , P . P . G . P . ; Hiram Henton , P . M . 1559 ; J . T . Piiditch , P . M . 1420 ; Collick , P . The installation was performed by Bro . A . Harvey , I . P . M ., in a most praisaworty manner , in the presence oi 23 Past Masters , and the impressive and deliberate manner in which he afterwards delivered the charges elicited hearty praise from all those present . usual manner and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , when nearly 100 sat down . The W . M . gave the usual Masonic toasts . These were interspersed with some excellent singing by Miss Constance Adams , Miss Annie Wilson , and Bros . Pownall and Bartlett , and the Tyler's toast closed a most enjoyable and pleasant evening .

London Scottish Rifles Lodge ( No . 2310 ) . —The , installallation meeting of this well known and flourishing lodge was held at the Criterion Restaurant , Regent ' s-circus , on Thursday , the iSth ult ., when there were present Bros . Grand Master Banffshire , Bro . VV . E . Reid , having arrived , he was saluted in due form . Bro . Col . Hy . Lumsden then presented Bro . S . A . Hardiman , W . M . elect , to receive the benefit of installation from the hands of Bro . W . H . Glyn Smith , W . M ., which ceremony was performed in a highly impressive and perfect manner . The new W . M . appointed and invested his officers for the ensuing year most

commendably as follows : Bros . J . J . Mackay , S . W . ; S . F . Mackway , J . W . ; VV . A . Pardoe , Sec . ; E . J . Husey , Treas . ; J . A . Braik , S . D . ; R . B . Fowler , J . D . ; R . Grant , I . G . ; K . B . Brown , A . D . C . ; Graham Gordon , Org . ; J . McKinlay , Stwd . ; and W . Robertson , Tyler . The addresses were rendered by the Installing Master in a very able manner . A Past Master ' s collar and jewel , together with a

special bar for he jewel , were unanimously voted to Bro . W . H . Glyn Smith , for so ably performing the duties of W . M . for the past year , through the unavoidable absence of Bro . J . T . Norman Callaway , W . M ., who bad gone to California . A proposition for initiation was handed in for thc next meeting . Thc business of the lodge ended , the brethren adjourned

to a sumptuous banquet . On the removal of the cloth the W . M . gave , in right royal style , the toasts of ' The Queen and Craft , " and " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " which were received most loyally . That of "The Pro G . M ., the Earl of Lathom ; the Dep . G . M ., the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M ., after dilating on their many excellences , commended it to the brethren

as one most worthy , which was received and duly honoured . The toast of "The W . M . " was presented by Bro . Col . Lumsden , P . M ., in eulogistic terms , remarking that he was sure it would be received most enthusiastically . Their W . M . was a most zealous Mason , and devoted much time to the cause of Masonry . He had filled the lower offices in a very able manner from the consecration of the lodge , was

one of its founders , and now thc brethren had unanimously placed him in that honourable position , thus shewing their confidence in him . He ( Bro . Col . Lumsden ) was confident the prestige and high character of the lodge would be fully maintained during the present year , and at its close would predict the lodge would hold a more influential position than now . The toast was received with acclamation .

Bro . Hardiman , W . M ., in reply , thanked the brethren most cordially for the too flattering- remarks of Bro . Col . Lumsden , under whom he was proud to say he served , and to whom the present position of the lodge was greatly indebted . That night was the proudest moment of his life , for to have filled the lower offices , having been appointed J . D . at the consecration and had worked hard in founding

the lodge , it was one to which every Mason should attain . To him Masonry was his very soul , and his utmost endeavour was to carry out the grand principle of doing to others as we would wish them to do to us . Most truly and sincerely in every way he would endeavour to maintain the honour and integrity of the lodge . The W . M . next gave the b . ast of "The I . P . M . and

Installing Master , Bro . Smith , " who was a most splendid Mason and had for the second year carried out thc duties ot VV . M . ( for reasons already stated ) in a most exemplary manner . To show the appreciation of the brethren for his most cheerful and able services he had very great pleasure in investing him with the Past Master ' s collar and jewel , and also the special bar for the Past Mister ' s jewel voted

from the lodge , trusting that the Great Architect wuuld spare him many , many years to wear the same , and thereby adorn the lodge with his genial presence and give them the benefit of his wise counsel . Bio . Smith , Installing Master , in reply , stated the

pleasure it gave him to render what service he could to further the interest of the lodge . Certainly he had been called upon to perform those duties for the second time most unexpectedly , but , nevertheless , he was gratified to do it . He must say he had been most ably assisted by Bro . J . Hepburn Hastie , the father of thc lodge , during the year , who was always most ready and willing to help those

who needed that assistance . He was pleased to be able to congratulate the lodge upon the W . M ., and also on the excellent array of young officers following . For this mark of appreciation he most heartily thanked the brethren and would promise to support the Worshipful Master most cordially . The toast of "The Visitors" was relegated to Bro

Mackay , S . W ., who dilated upon the wonderful force and power there was in Masonry in drawing together men of every clime , and binding them in one indissoluble bond . He would present the toast to the lodge , and was confident it would be received most cordially . In reply , Bro . Reid , Prov . G . M . Banffshire , spoke most highly of the work he had witnessed , and also the excellent

entertainment afterwards . It was his first visit to a London lodge , and deep impression had been made . It was his duty and privilege to visit all his lodges personally in his province , which entailed an immense amount of labour in reaching them , but he had been rewarded by seeing the great benefit accruing from such visits . He again comp limented the lodge upon its high position , and , on behalf of the visitors , most cordially thanked the brethren .

Bros . Higerty , Beck , Gellion , Thompson , Addington , and Stone , most fully responded , specially congratulating the W . M . upon the proud and honourable position as "the premier" as regards the subscriptions towards the Girls ' institution at the late Festival , taking up the splendid sum of £ 210 , representing the Stability Lodge , No . 217 , his mother lodge . The toast of " The Past Masters " was given most abl y , and responded toby Bros . Lumsden and Smith in becoming

terms . The Worshipful Master , in presenting the toast of " The Officers , " eulogised them individually most fully , and congratulated himself and the lodge upon having such . He would call upon the J . D . to respond , which was done very ably , and on behalf of his brother officers , they would throw all their zeal and energy to make the year most

successful . The Tyler's toast closed a most happy and eventful meeting . During the banquet " The Haggis " was played in by the piper , who added greatly to the harmony of the meeting

by playing the several reel dances . The following brethren , under the able organist , Bro . Graham Gordan , highly entertained the lodge : Bros . Reid and Thompson ( reciter ) , Mackway , Mackay , Major Brown , Lieut . Braik , Fowler , Keys , K . B . Brown , and Carlin . The brethren closed by singing the patriotic melody , Auld Lang Syne .

Hiram Lodge ( No . 2416 ) . —The last meetm ;* of the season was held at Freemasons' Hall on the 24 th ult . Bro . Frederic R . Lueeow , W . M ., presided , and was supported by Bros . VV . J . Ebbetts , as I . P . M . ; F . A . Nowell , S . W . ; W . T . Bonner , J . W . ; Henry Lovegrove , I . P . M ., Sec ; G . Elkington , S . D . ; W . West , as J . D . ; T . C . Yates , as I . G . ; and F . Jackson , Org .

Bro . Reginald Bix was passed . Bros . Dnnkwater and Wrightson , two of the officers , were unable to attend through indisposition , and Bros . Mundy , Treas ., and W . Heelis through business engagements . The brethren dined at Freemasons' Tavern , and a pleasant evening was spent , as may be expected when all the members belong to one profession . Architects and surveyors arc welcomed as members of this lodge .

ETON . George Gardner Lodge ( No . 2304 ) . —A meeting was held at the Christopher Hotel on Saturday , the 27 th ult ., when , after the initiation of Mr . J , Williamson , Bro . C . P . Bellerley , P . G . S . B ., was installed as W . M .

by Bro . Laundy , W . M ., and afterwards the following officers were appointed : Bros . R . T . P . Laundy , I . P . M . ; Corpe , S . W . ; Brodcrick , J . W . ; George Gardner , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., Treas . ( in the place of Bro . E . B . Cocks , deceased ); and J . T . Muddiman , Sec . The meeting throughout was most enthusiastic and

pleasant , and bids fair for the prosperity of the lodge . Bro . George Gardner represented the lodee at the recent Festival of the "Girls ' . School , and took . upwardsi . pf £ i- ° > and serving his 20 th Stewardship . The lodge is to have live meetings in the future instead of four , in consequence of the increase of local support .

KINGSTON-ON-THAMES . Dobie Lodge ( No . 889 ) . —At the meeting held on Wednesday , the 171 I 1 ult ., ( here was a good attendance of members and visitors . Bro . Jas . Edgell , W . M ., had an opportunity of showing his knowledge of the ritual on this his first occupancy of the chair after installation , and the way in which he initiated the accepted candidate , Mr . W .

J . Wells , shows that he has not neglected opportunities <" learning while ascending the ladder . The lodge gained another member in the person of Bro . Geo . Scott , 2 J 95 i who was welcomed as a joining member on the recommendation of Bros . Tom Wilkinson and Watkin , the S . W . and W . S . respectively . Bro . J .
