" Hearty good wishes" having been given , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet chamber . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts having been duly honoured , an unusually excellent , intellectual , and musical treat was provided by Bros . Pearson , Briggs , Miller , Higgins , and Whitfield , which evoked the heartiest expressions of approval from all the brethren present , and greatly enhanced the pleasure of the evening- .

LINCOLN . Ermine Lodge ( No . 2351 ) . —INSTALLATION OF THE EAKL 01 ' YARBOROUGH . —On Tuesday , the 16 th ult ., Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Yarborough was installed VV . M . of the above lodge and the occasion was made a great Masonic ceremony . Lord Yarborough is descended from a Masonic family , his grandfather having been a very

prominent member of the brotherhood in his day . The Prince of Wales , the M . W . G . M . of England , recently bestowed a signal mark of his favour upon Lord Yarborough , whom he appointed S . G . W . of England , and the honour was the greater inasmuch as his lordship only entered the Fraternity some three years ago , having been made a Master Mason in the Ermine Lodge two years

since . Lord Yarborough also holds the high position of Prov . Grand M . M . of Lincolnshire . The Ermine Lodge was consecrated on April 2 ist , 1 S 90 , by a great ceremonial , in which Bro . Col . long speeches . "The Queen and Craft" and the usual Masonic toasts having been given and received , Bro . Hewett , I . P . M ., rose to give "The W . M ., " highly eulogising Bro . Budden's steady work through all the offices of the lodge , and his valuable services to the Craft generally , and the Surbiton Lodge in particular . The toast was most heartily received , and the VV . M .

made suitable reply , thanking the Past Masters and the brethren for their support . The next toast , "The Installing Master , " was given in most cordial terms by the W . M . Bro . Hewett replied . " The Visitors " ( responded to infelicitous terms by Bros . Hodgkin , Willis , and Wright ) , " The Treasurer and Secretary " ( responded toby Bros . R . S . Hart and J . G . Beck ) ,

" The Masonic Press " ( coupled with the name of Bro . G . H . Drewett ) , and "The Officers of the Lodge" ( responded to by the J . W . and S . D . ) , having been suitably toasted , the Tyler ' s toast concluded the very successful proceedings . The excellent music given formed quite a feature of the evening . Bro . H . G . R . Hart , the newly-elected Organist , had drawn up what proved to be a very enjoyable programme . The musical talent of the lodge is strong , and

Bro . Hart could rely on very able assistance from Bros . Masters , F . P . Hill , P . M . ; R . S . Hart , P . M . ; Albert Hill , and H . Winch Hill , members , while visiting Bro . Sims also sang , being most favourably received , and W . C Dungate assisted . Part songs , solos , duets , and mandolin solos were all excellently rendered , and the artistes received the hearty thanks of the brethren , an extra toast in their honour being given from the chair .

which showed a very favourable balance in hand , was presented and adopted . The installation of the Principals was next proceeded with , and carried out most perfectly by Comps . E . Janitor . Letters and telegrams were read from several companions for inability to attend , and wishing the M . E . Z . a happy and prosperous year of office . The M . E . Z . proposed a candidate for the next convocation , and the chapter was then closed . The companions then adjourned to the banquet , the arrangements for which were personally superintended by the manager , Comp , E . A . Ashby .

On the removal of the cloth , the M . E . Z . gave the loyal and Royal Arch toasts in very appropriate terms . In presenting the toast of "The M . E . Z ., " Comp . Flegg stated to him it was a great pleasure , and one he thought the most important of the evening . Thc honour of giving th'S toast devolved upon him by virtue of his office as I . P . Z ., and in that capacity he would state with confidence , well knowing that their M . E . Z . would make an excellent

officer , lie was an honour to the Temple Lodge , and he was confident he would honour the chapter , as he had its welfare at heart . Already an exaltee was announced , which augured well , and while their M . E . Z . practised out of the chapter such excellent precepts as were taught within it the chapter must go on and prosper . He , with the rest of the companions , wished the M . E . Z . a most happy and successful year of office .

In response , the M . E . Z ., Comp . F . Williams , thanked the companions for such a hearty reception and Comp . F'eg-ff , who had said such kind things of him . Certainly he had the love of Temple Lodge at heart , and the chapter would be to him as dear , and nothing gave him greater happiness than to be doing for either or both . For such a warm greeting he was deeply touched , and his earnest desire was that they should , for many years to come , meet

around that hospitable table . The toast of " The Visitors " was next given by the M . E . Z . They were honoured by a goodly array of excellent companions , and he trusted they would grace their social board on many future occasions . Comp . B . R . Bryant , in reply , congratulated the M . E . Z . on attaining the honourable position . 11 was one of great honour , dignity , and trust , and in order to sustain it as

such it required every effort to be put forth . He was confident that effort would be made to the satisfaction of every companion of the chapter . For such hospitality shown to the visitors he heartily thanked them , and his earnest wish was that there would be plenty of work . Comps . K . J . Voisey , P . Z ., andStrong also responded . The toast of "Comps . H . Squire , H ., and J . Sparks , J ., " was next given by the M . E . Z ., who remarked that Comp . I'legg had said he ( Comp . Williams ) would make a good

Royal Arch.

First Principal , but he must add that without such excellent companions as H . and J ., he could not carry out his duties fully , and he should rely upon them to a very great extent . He wished them long life to adorn the position of M . E . Z ., as also that of Past Principals . The H . and J . suitably acknowledged the compliment paid them .

The toast of " The Past Principals " was given by the M . E . Z ., who said they all knew their intense value and superior working . Of their excellent Comps . Lardner and Taylor , he would assure the companions that their working of the installations that evening could not be surpassed . He was attached to a chapter in South London noted for its working , but even there it was not performed better .

Also Comps . May , Flegg , Bullock , and the father of the chapter , Comp . White ( with whom they deeply sympathised in his illness ) all had done most suitable service in the Temple Chapter . Some time ago he had had the honour of attaching to the breast of Comp . Flegg the jewel of Past Master of the Temple Lodge , and now , to show the appreciation of the companions , it gave him the greatest possible

pleasure in pinning to his breast the jewel of I . P . Z . of the chapter , unanimously voted him tor valuable services rendered during the past year . He ( the M . E . Z . ) hoped that it would adorn his breast for many , many years , and that it would be present at many of their convocations , accompanied by its owner . In response Comp . Taylor , Treas ., thanked the M . E . Z .

for his kind expressions , and stated the great amount of pleasure it gave him to render any service to the chapter , as also his colleague , Comp . Lardner , and was gratified it met with approbation . Hitherto the office of Treasurer had been a sinecure , but now he was happy to state there was a balance in favour , and he hoped that during the present year that would be increased , and he would

undertake that the money trusted would be rightly disbursed . Comp . Flegg , as I . P . Z ., paid a high tribute of praise to Comps . Lardner and Taylor for able services rendere 1 him during the past year . He was grateful for such a handsome testimony as the jewel , and felt he had not properly earned it ; nevertheless he should highly prize it as long as he lived . Everything augured well for the future of the

chapter , finances good , working good , and exaltees promising . He should look back with pride upon the past year , and thanked all most heartily for their kind support . Comps . May , Lardner , and Bullock also ably replied . The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of " The Officers , " congratulating himself and the chapter upon having so good an array . This was replied to by Comps . Horace Petley , S . N ., and C . Plant , P . S .

The Janitor's toast closed one of the best meetings in the annals of Temple Chapter . An excellent book of the words with a cabinet portrait of the M . E . Z . was presented to every companion present . Comp . Horace Petley , Org ., arranged a splendid programme of music , most ably assisted by Comp . Arthur Weston , and Bros . James Budd , Fred . Stephens , and Samuel Wright . Comp . Petley was the able accompanist . The jewel was manufactured by Comp . George Kenning .

CROYDON . Mozart Chapter ( No . 1729 ) . —This chapter met at the Greyhound Hotel , on the 22 nd ult . Among those present were Comps . J . Costello , M . E . Z . ; MajorT . W . Richardson , P .
