WHEN tliree weeks since , ive addressed " A . Few Words to the Graft relative to the position and prospects of the Freemasons Magazine , ive scarcely anticipated that our appeal would be so prompt y and so handsomely met as it has been . The publication of that address led to our receiving various communications from Brethren , which resulted in a meeting being held aiKl the passing of resolutions most Avhich pub hshin another part of oui
flattering to ourselves , vve Magazine , under the head of the Masomo Mirror . At that meeting -comprising as it did many highly influential Brethren , Avhose names are known throughout the Craft-but one opinion Avas expressedas to the desirability of the Order possessing an independent , impartial , and temperately conducted organ in the press , through Avhich the Brethren might express their opinions , and seek for reliable
information , untainted by party bias . Such a publication ive have endeavoured to provide for the Otdei and in proposing and seconding the resolutions ; which we , poBed at the meeting of ivhich we speak , we were gratified to hear that the speakers not only bore testimony to the independence Avhich has but distinctlenunciated the prmciple
hitherto marked our progress- y that , in coming forward to assist the Magazinethey offered that assitance only with the clear understanding that they did not seek to tie the hands of , or influence the independence of the Manage ^ It is with that understanding that Ave gratefully accept the aid ofleied determined to consider the fund now being raised only as
us-being a trust , to be administered for the benefit of the Craft , to promote the welfare ofthe interests and the charities of the Order-for it is only through the pages of a fairly and honestly conducted periodical that the claims and wants of those institutions can be properly made known to the Brethren .
