H ., relative to his contemplated retirement on account of ill-health aud advanced years , and expressing his lordship ' s opinion as to the brother best qualified to succeed him in the rule of the province . This was ordered to be entered in the minutes , and to be acknowledged by the secretary in suitable termsexpressive of the thanks of the lodge for his

, lordship ' s communication , and of the unanimous concurrence of the assembled brethren in his opinion , which gave them the liveliest satisfaction . A gentleman having been proposed as a candidate for Freemasonry , and the desirability of a Masonic ball taking place in the town in the course of the coming winter having been discussed , the lodge was closed , and the brethren . adjourned to refreshment .

M ., presided , and the lodge was numerously attended . Amongst those present were Bro . J . P . Bell , M . D ., D . Prov . G . M . for North and East Yorkshire ; Bro . M . C . Peck , ¦ and the AY . M . ' s of the Humber and Minerva Lodges . The

business of the lodge having been disposed of , the AV . M ., assisted by Bro . C . Copland , I . P . M ., passed Bros . Morrell , Bay lis , and Howard to the degree of F . C . The lodge having been closed down to the first degree , the AA . M . gave an exceedingly full and interesting account of a visit he recently paid to a loclge in Paris , which was attentively hoard , and for which he received the thanks of the lodge . It was announced that the next

regular meeting of the lodgo would be held on Thursday , the 4 th , instead of AVednesday , the 3 rd of November ; a dispensation for the change of day having been applied for , as the meeting of the Yorkshire Musical Society would take place on the latter date . The brethren afterwards partook of tho usual i-efreshment , and passed a very pleasant evening .

GLASGOW . GLASGOW . —Lodge of Glasgoio , St . Joint ( No . 3 bis ) . —A meeting of this ancient lodge was held on tho 5 th inst . ; Bro . Baird , R . W . M " ., in the chair . Bro . M'Millan , S . AV ., Bro . M'Aulny , J . AV ., and a large number of the brethren were present . The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and passed , also of an emergency meeting at which two gentlemen were initiated , & c . The D . P . G . M ., Bro . Walter M .

Neilson , now entered the lodge , to whom the R . AA . M . vacated the chair . Bro . Neilson , however , after a few complimentary remarks , allowed the R . AV . M . to resume bis former position , while he supported him on the right . Bro . Gavin Park , P . M ., in reference to the portion of minute regarding the proposed new ball for the lodge , explained the position of affairs , while the R . AA . M . produced a plan showing how the proposed premises could adapted , and made high in the ceiling , and be properly ventilated , and more suitable for the growing requirements of the lodge than what they occupied at present . After some

discussion upon tlie pros , and cons , of the matter , Bro . Buchan proposed a motion to the effect that the upper flat of north property , 213 , Buchanan-street , be bought by the lodge , and altered and fitted up as a Masonic ball , and that shares be taken up by the members and other parties interested in the welfare of the lodge ; also that donations be received towards that object , so that the lodge may have a hall of its own suitable for its dignity and position . The said motion was seconded b

y Bro . E . F . Bamber , Sec An amendment was proposed by Bro . Millar , and seconded by Bro . D . Walker , that the shares scheme should be left out . Both amendment and motion were put to the meeting , when the lodge by a large majority agreed to the motion . Bro . Neilson , D . P . G . M ., thereafter made a few remarks in support of the scheme . The expense will be about a thousand poundsand as the lodnumbers so architects

, ge many , builders , and other influential brethren amongst its members , it is to be hoped that thoy will get up such a hall as will be worthy of themselves , their mother lodge ( the senior lodge of the province ) , aud of Glasgow . About £ 300 in shares have already been taken up ( up to the 6 th instant ) , as also some donations received .

OE JERSEY , AND INAUGURATION OB THE JERSEY WATER AVORKS . ~"" AVe may briefly premise for general information that the question of providing the town of St . Helier with a plentiful lof good wholesome water has long been a matter of

suppy anxious consideration . With this object the "Jersey Waterworks Company " was formed . The promoters , therefore , determined to inaugure the important undertaking by a grand public display , so as to give eclat to the whole proceedings , and for that purpose they fixed the day of the R . AV . P . G . Master's installation for the inauguration of the waterworks . His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor , the Bailif , the civil authorities , and

the clergy , with the principal merchants and gentry of the island , responded to the invitation to join the day's proceedings . The P . G . M . and the brethren cordially assented to honour the event .

THE INSTALLATION . The Prov . G . Lodge was held on AVednesday , the 29 th ult ., at tho Masonic Temple , and was opened soon after 10 o'clock a . m . by W . Bro . AVm . Adams , P . P . G . S .
