MASONIC FUNERAL AT GREY - MOUTH , JMEAV ZEALAND . —A ~ New Zealaud paper records tiie first Masonic funeral in Greymouth , when the mortal remains of the late Bro . F . H . Lowe , Superintendant of the Grey Eiver Hospital , ivere conveyed to their last resting-place , iu the cemetry . During the feAV months Bro . Low had been resident there he had

gained the esteem of a large circle of friends , and this was shown hy a number of the princi ple places of business having some shutters up , and many of them being entirely closed Avhen the cortege passed , Bro , Low being a member of tho Masonic fraternit y and having made a request some time ago that iu the event of his death he Avished to bo buried - with

Masonic honours , the members of the Greymouth Lodge assembled iu their Hall , Gilmer ' s Building , aud after some preliminaries , Avere marshalled by Bro . D . Maclean , and marched to the hospital , from Avhich place the funeral cortege was to move . The funeral procession moved along Mawhera and

Eichmond-quays in the following order . —( Tyler acting ) , Bro . E . Fox , with drawn sword ; band , playing the Dead March iu Saul "; six Stewards Avith rods ; brethren in Masonic mourning costume ; Bro . C . Hanser Senior De con ; Bro . II . Whittnore ( acting ) , junior

deacon ; Bro . J . M'Beth , Treasurer ; Bro . E , Shaw ( acting ) , Secretary , & c . The procession passed along Mawhera and Eichmond-quays , ancl Arneystreet , where thronged Avith spectators , to the cemetery where the Eev . Mr . Watkins read the funeral service of the Church of England . Bro . G . W . Moss , W . M ., then Avent through the solemn and impressive

ceremony of the Order for the dead . The ceremony being concluded , the brethren proceeded to the Tramway station , aud came to town by rail . Outside the town the procession was again formed , and proceeded in order to the

Lodge-room-A grand p icnic has been held in Toung ' s Grove , Blue Island , Illinois , by the Chicago Consistory of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Eite . A large number of knights and guests attended . The chief event of the day was an oration by the M . W . G . M . , Bro . H . G . Reynolds , upon the patron saints of the

order , and an interesting epitome of Masonry iu Illinois and its progress up to the present time . After refreshments , dancing Avas entered into by the guests with great spirit .

The foundation-stone of a New Court House was laid with Masonic ceremonies by the Grand Lodge of Indiana , ancl Bro . Eice , M . W . G . M ., at Laporte , Indiana , on the 25 th August last . The annual communications of Grand Lodge and

Grand Chapter of Nebraska were held at Plattsmouth ou the 20 th , 21 st , 22 nd , and 23 rd of June . From the "New Tork Times" we learn that a new Lodge , called " Fairmount Lodge , " Avith 21 charter members , Avas recently organized in Newark ,

and is located on the corner of South Orange Avenue and Broome Street . The room is 28 x 40 ft ,, and 13 ft . hi gh , and is beautifully finished and furnished .

The Grand Lodge of Iowa recently held its annual communication . The Grand Master ' s address is brief ,, but is a practical business paper , most of it being devoted to local interests . To our thinking the M . W . Bro . gives his view , rather radical iu regard to negro masonry , but as this is a question that will

undoubtedly receive the attention of many Grand Lodges , it can do no harm to express them . The financial affairs of the Grand Lodge are in a good condition , and Mfisonay generally in Iowa is flourishing . The foreign correspondence is elaborate and interest-, ing .

From Upper Alsace , says the " Allgemeine Zeitung , " there is very sad news , for at Millhausen the greatest terrorism prevails , and the persecution of the Germans is still going on . Unhappily , religious fauatacism is playing an important part , and exciting passionate minds against Protestants and Freemasons , as though the Avar Avas connected with them . ,,
