The chapter was opened by Comp . W . H . Keeble , M . E . Z ., who shortly afterwards vacated the chair in favour of Comp . Penfold , as Installing Officer . Comp . Keeble was presented with a handsome and valuable P . Z . 's jewel , as a mirk of the esteem of the

Penfold was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services , long and continued to the chapter , especially as its Installing Officer , and the chapter was closed . The companions then adjourned to the Earl of Chatham Arms , Thomas-street , Woolwich , where , in the new and handsome assembly room of the establishment , the banquet was served . It was a high-class " Woolwich Infant" banquet , and the worthy host , Bro . George Cashfieldand his amiable wifewere complimented on all sides for
, , their perfect catering and service . The usual loyal and Royal Arch toasts having been honoured , Comp . Keeble proposed the toast of "The M . E . Z . " in glowing terms , and wished him a prosperous and happy year of office . , The M . E . Z ., in response , said he should endeavour to do his best , but if he found that he could not do all that was necessary to sustain the prestige of the chapter , he knew that he could fall back uoon the helo of their I . P . Z .. who had shown them that he
was both able and willing to do any work he was called upon to do . In response to a flattering reception of his name as "Installing Offher , " Comp . tenfold said it was a great pleasure once more to meet the companions of the Union Waterloo Chapter . For many years past he had hid the honour and pleasure of installing the Principals of the chapter . The years seemed to roll past one after the other in quick succession , and so it seemed to him did the Principals of the chapter continue to be installedsome passed and some remained In looking through
; away . " lelr warrant he found that it was consecrated in the year 1827 , at the Barrack Tavern , on Woolwich Common . Their chapter , therefore , was 72 years old , and he heartily wished there were 72 elders now present ; of course , that could not be , because , as he th u ' ^ ' " " ' ' ce tne years * were P ast : am * B ' •however , he was glad to say that they had a goodly number of members , and were in everyway in a flourishing condition .
rts they knew , there was another attractive meeting that night elsewhere that , as it were , split them up into sections , but though disunited that night , yet they were firmly united m their love for Royal Arch Masonry and their grand old chapter . Every other chapter in the district was the child of that chapter , and he trusted their M . E . Z . would , uunng his year of office , see himself surrounded by the members of those chapters that sprang from the good old mother chapter , and that when he vacated the chair they would oe able to say to him , " Well done , thou good and faithful servant .

" The Second and Third Principals " having . been toasted and responded to the compliment , Comp . Jolly briefly responded for " The Visitors , " so far as himself was concerned , and thanked the companions for their hospitality . Comp . Horton regretted not being able to be present at the installation , but had come as soon as he could , because he believed in the Principals of different chapters visiting one another . He was proud of his office as M . E . Z . of the Pattison Chapter ,
and felt sure that if Comp . McQueen would study Royal Arch Masonry he would find it , as it claimed to be , " the climax of all Freemasoury . " Comp . Turton said he was pleased to see the M . E . Z . of the Pattison Chapter present and to be present himself . Some years ago , before he was a Royal Arch Masen , a brother of his , who had done good service to Masonry in America , came over here on
a visit , and that brother told him " you must join the Royal Arch , for you find it the most beautiful ceremony in the whole working of the Masonic Degrees . "_ He found his brother's words to be correct , and whatever he could do to further the interests of the Royal Arch he would do with all the energy in his power . Comp . Spinks responded for " The P . Zs . and Officers , " and the Janitor ' s toast closed the proceedings , which were most enjoyable .

( deferred ); and C . Patrick , P . Z ., Janitor . The M . E . Z . next presented Comp . W . R . Barr , I . P . Z ., with the P . Principal ' s jewel , and remarked that he had had a Ynost | successful year of office , leaving a substantial balance in favour of the chapter , and the year had also been
marked by excellent working and thorough harmony . Comp . Barr most lucidly and pertinently replied , and thanked the companions for voting him the jewel ( ths prettiest jewel , to his mind , he had ever seen ) , as a testimony of their esteem towards him . The Auditors' report was presented and adopted , which showed the chapter to be very flourishing financially . The sum of five guineas was voted from the funds to the Benevolent Institution and placed upon Comp . Barr ' s list , who is Steward at the coming Festival . A very pleasing incident followed , when Comp . Chas . Meierhoff , I ., said , to mark the love and esteem of the companions of the Star Chapter , they had thought it a
very htting opportunity to present Comp . Thos . Grummant , M . E . Z ., with the Provincial Grand clothing , he having been honoured with the position of P . S . of Essex , and he might say none was more competent or worthy of that honour . In reply , Comp . Thos . Grummant , M . E . Z ., said it was a very proud moment to be again elected to that position after 13 years leaving the chair , and 21 years since his exaltation , but he certainly appreciated the honour much more on account of their very kind present . He tendered his hearty thanks . A vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Comp . Wm . Eckersall , P . Z ., to be sent to Mrs . Eckecsall . The name of a candidate for exaltation was handed in for next convocation .
The business of the chapter ended , the companions adjourned to the banquet , which was highly appreciated . The usual loyal and R . A . toasts having been duly honoured , that of" The Pro G . Z ., G . H ., G . J ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was given , and most cordially received . Comp . W . R . Barr , I . P . Z ., next presented the toast of " The M . E . . Z ., " which he thought , indeed , a great honour . It was unnecessary to expatiate uoon his excellent
qualities , one of the ablest Precep ors , kind and genial anl ever ready to help all who asked his assistance . He wished the M . E . Z ., as did all the companions , a happy and prosperous year , which he felt confident would redound to the honour of the Star Chapter . Comp . T . Grummant , M . E . Z ., on rising , rec jived an ovation . Hesaid he most heartily thanked them for their warm expressions . It was a proud moment after an interval of 13 years to again be elected to the chair . He might assure them the interest of the chapter was dear to his heart . There were many happy reminiscences , but during the
last year two of the worthy Past Principals , Comps . Addington and Eckersall , had passed away , which was a severe loss to the chapter . However , the e were many old and esteemed friends around , especially Comp . Wm . Cowley , who was exalted with him 21 years ago . He again tendered his thanks for their gift of Provincial Grand clothing and would assure the companions that his love for the chapter had not in the least waned and whatever he could do to forward its best interests would be done as a labour of love .
The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of " The Principals H . and J . " in terms of strong commendation , which was duly responded to by them tendering their most hearty support . The toast of "The Visitors" was ably and gr acefully proposed by the M . E . Z ., giving them a most cordial welcome . This was replied to by Comps . Graham , P . Z ., Cureton , P . Z ., and Wm . Dawson , M . E Z . elect 1622 , in appreciative terms for the great kindness shown them , and all paid a high tribute to the M . E . Z . for his able service rendered to Roval Arch Masonrv in oar .
ticular , and his election to the chair would add lustre to the chapter . The M . E . Z . honoured the toast of " The Past Principals , " which was ably responded to by Comps . Barr , Cowley , Crook , and Benedetti , in terms of appreciation . In presenting the toast of " The Treasurer and Secretary , " the M . E . Z . paid a high compliment to Comp . W . Williams , Treas ., the father of the chapter , who was one of the best , as also of the S . E ., who was most assiduous to duty , and it was a very great pleasure to him to invest him with the collar and have his able assistance during the coming year .

Royal Arch.
