two instances ( those of personal friends ) being performed by the , W . M . elect , who thus gave ample proof of proficiency in the duties about to devolve upon him . The retiring Master , Bro . J " . Hervey , Prov . Q . J . D ., then pix > ceeded with the ceremony of "installation , conducting this , as every other portion of the day ' s Ci work , " in a manner at once correct and impressive . After the accustomed greetings , the newly-installed W . M . appointed his Officers , as follows : —Bros . Collins , Prov . Gr . B . Wilts , S . W . ; Jenkins , J . W . ; Harrison , P . M ., Treas . ;

Wilkinson , Sec ; Thomas Bohn ( P . M . No . 201 , and W . M . elect of the Canonbury Lodge ) , S . D . ; F . H . Geach , J . D . ; F . Adlard , Asst . Dir . of Cers ., Essex , Dir . of Cers . ; and F . Bigg , I . G . An adjournment then took place to the banquet , over which the W . M . presided in such a style as to elicit encomiums from all . The tables were liberally and excellently furnished , in quantity and quality , reflecting infinite credit on the cuisine of the Freemasons' Tavern . The usual toasts were followed by a ceremony as interesting as it was unexpected to the majority of those assembled . Bro . P . M . Hopwood , having been called upon by the W . M ., rose and introduced to the notice of the Brethren the name of the

excellent immediate P . M . Bro . J . Hervey , highly eulogizing his conduct in every walk of life , and especially alluding to the deservedly high estimation in which he is held hy every member of the Masonic community . As a proof of that esteem , as far as the Brethren of the Boyal York were concerned , he was commissioned to present to him the testimonial just placed upon the table , and for himself and them he most heartily wished him , many years of health and happiness to enjoy the friendship of those by whom he was so highly respected , and to whom he was so much endeared . On rising to respond , Bro . Hervey was greeted with long continued applause , and finding himself unable , under the

circumstances , adequately to give expression to the feelings which overpowered him , simply begged the Brethren to accept his heartfelt thanks for this renewed mark of their kindness . The toast of " The Visitors " was acknowledged by Bro . Rev . G . B . Portal , and that of "The Charities" ( which , at the request of theW . M ., was proposed by a visitor , and enthusiastically received ) by Bros . Hervey , G . Barrett , Farnfield , and S . B . Wilson . It is impossible to give an

accurate list of the numerous guests on this occasion , numbering as they did nearly thirty ( the total number at the banquet approaching sixty ) , but as far as we could ascertain they were as follows : —Bros . Dr . Kent , Prov . G . M ., South Australia ; E . Phillips , G . J . D . ; E . Roberts , Prov . G . J . W ., Wilts ., and P . M . No . 167 ; S . B . Wilson , Prov . Supt . Works , Kent , and P . M . No . 147 , & c . ; Key , Prov . G . S . W ., Kent ; Bev . G . R . Portal , Prov . G . Chap ., Oxon . Amongst the W . Ms .

present were—W . Paas , No . 30 ; S . B . Wilson , jun ., No . 70 ; F . Slight , No . 109 M . Levinson , No . 209 ; Arliss , No . 237 . Of P . Ms , there were—F . Binckes , No . 11 ; L . Artus , No . 40 ; Moss , No . 03 ; G . Barrett , No . 188 ; Collard , No . 209 ; Gurton , No . 211 ; J . K Sheen , No . 237 ; E . E . Leeks , & c . ; Bros . G . E . Sewell , J . D ., No . 11 ; Howard , P . M . ; No . 85 , & c . To arrange and

provide for the comforts of so many would have taxed the energies and perplexed the abilities of some Dirs . of Cers ., but Bro . P . Adlard rose superior to the occasion and acquitted himself most admirably . Indeed to him belongs , in no small degree , the credit of a success in the arrangements of the evening , which was pronounced by all to be uniform and entire . On the following Friday a Lodge of Emergency was held , when the new W . M . initiated Messrs . John Field and

Ldward Bicknell into the Order . Albion Lodge ( No . 9 ) . —This veteran Lodge met at the Freemasons' Tavern on Tuesday , Oth of January . The W . M . Bro . Woods initiated three gentlemen hi to the mysteries of the Order in ; i most able and impressive manner ; after which the

W . M . for the ensuing year , Bro . Friend , was presented and duly installed into the chair by the old ; uid much valued P . M . and Sec . Bro . Win . Backstraw . The W . M . then proceeded to invest his Officers : . Bro . Moring , the intended S W not being present , Bro . Hugh en , in a most noble and truly Masonic manner " refused to take advantage of his absence , and was appointed J . W . Bro . Lee , who expressed his great gratification at witnessing such truly fraternal conduct ' , was invested as Treas . Bro . Rackstraw was then appointed and invested as Secretary ,
