Dir . of Cers ., Surrey ; Lieut . Wells , S . G . D . of Kent ; Capt . Reynolds , of No . 654 ; and George Folkard , of No . 338 . After the disposal of the excellent banquet and due honour had been paid to " The Queen , " et The M . W . Grand Master , " and "The B . W " . the D . Grand Master , "
Bro . Wood rose , and congratulating the Lodge on the good fortune of having so worthy and excellent a Mason to preside over the Boyal York as Bro . John Bacon , called on the Brethren to give a warm and hearty greeting to the health of the W . M . ; they could see the energy and firmness with which he presided that evening , and thus gave promise of a successful year , and that the chair of the Lodge would be filled with dignity and Masonic principle .
The W . M ., in reply , assured the Brethren that no effort should be wanting on his part to worthily follow the steps of his predecessor , and he trusted that in so doing he should give satisfaction . The W . M ., in proposing "The Yisitors , " gave utterance to the great pleasure he had in their presence , and he assured them that No . 394 would not succumb to any Lodge in carrying out that great Masonic principle—the rite of hospitality .
Bro . Atty , W . M . of the Prince of Wales Lodge and Brov . G . S ., in brief terms acknowledged the compliment ; and Bro . How said , as Bro . Atty s response was rather in a personal character , he would confine his own thankfulness to the publication , on behalf of which he was in attendance—that acknowledged organ of the Craft , the Freemasoiis' Magazine— -a desideratum that had
been long wanted , and , conducted as it is , was a medium for universal communication ; information was needed at the present time more than ever , as there were many subjects of great interest before the Craft , and the Brethren could now readily obtain the Magazine through the post . He knew many of the Brethren he was then addressing were subscribers , and he trusted that one and all present would become its patrons .
" The Bast Masters of the Lodge" was the next toast , which Bro . Wood responded to , by saying that the gratification of the P . Ms , was very great , in seeing the present strength of the Lodge . He might say , it was an infant brought suddenly into the full vigour of manhood , the senior members could boast of having brought into the Lodge men of all ranks , and last and not least the D . Grand Master of England . The P . Ms , assured the younger Brethren , if they desired to learn , the elders were ready to instruct and to convey information . The W . M . then called on the Brethren to drink the health of their venerable
friend , Bro . Bell , who had for twenty-live years been the Secretary of the Lodge . In responding Bro . Bell said , he hoped that harmony and goodfellowship would ever endure , that out of Lodge they would discharge the duties they were taught in it , and each would serve his neighbour as himself . He had lived to see this small Lodge become a great one , and he hoped that the only strife should be u who can best work and best relieve . " The crowning toast , " To all poor and distressed Masons , " was honoured ; and it being now late , the Brethren departed , highly gratified with the proceedings .
Chichester . —Lodge of Union ( No . 15 ) . —The anniversary meeting of this Lodge was held on Thursday , January 15 th , on which occasion the W . M ., Bro .
