the Collar and Jewel of Director of Ceremonies , an appointment which met with a most cordial reception ; Bro . Brockbank , P . M ., moved , and Bro . John Smith , P . M ., seconded a vote of thanks to the retiring Master , Bro . Pitznewton , for the ability with which he had discharged the duties of W . M ., and his courtesy and kindness to the Brethren during his tenure of office ; the resolution was carried by acclamation . The Lodge then adjourned to refreshments : the banquet was served up at five o clock , and in a style which reflected great credit upon the obliging , respected landlord , Bro . Brandwood .

The usual loyal toasts having been honoured , the W . M . proposed " The Earl of Zetland , the G . M . of England , " which was very cordially received . The
S . W . proposed " The Earl of Yarborough , theD . G . M ., " which was duly honoured . The J . W . proposed " The Grand Lodges of Scotland and Ireland , " which was received with great warmth . The W . M . then , in a highly eulogistic speech , proposed " The B . W . the Prov . G . M ., Stephen Blair , " and the cordial and enthusiastic manner in which it was received showed how highly this worthy Bro . is esteemed amongst the Craft , and how the members of the Lodge appreciate the character of our distinguished Prov . G . M .

Blair ( who had been compelled to leave a short time before from a pressing engagement ) , thanking the Brethren for the honour done to his distinguished chief . The W . Bro . Pitznewton , P . M ., proposed in very complimentary terms " TheW . A . H . Boyd , D . Prov . G . M . and the Prov . G-. Gfhcers of East Lancashire , " which was ably responded to by Bro . Tunnah , the Prov . G . Sec . Bro . Tunnah then proposed " The health of the W . M ., Bro . John Mitchell . " He said he had watched the career of Bro . Mitchell from his introduction into the
Lodge , and felt proud to think that he had been the person whose lot it had been first to introduce him to the light of Masonry ; he had always an high opinion of his merits and talents , and believed that under his presidency their Lodge would maintain its present position of ascendancy over nearly all the Lodges of the province in point of working talent and ability . The toast was most enthusiastically received . Bro . Dawson sung a most appropriate Masonic song .

Mitchell , in a most feeling manner , responded : and said , " Brethren , — Por the high honour you have conferred upon me hy electing me Master of this Lodge ; for the unanimity which prevailed at my election ; for the very complimentary remarks paid me by our W . Bro . Tunnah , and endorsed by your acclamation , I beg you will accept my grateful thanks . When you elected me Master of this Lodge 1 havo no doubt you felt every confidence in me , that I should endeavowr at least to do my duty . Imagining ,
as I do , that these were the feelings which actuated you , 1 consider myself called upon to promise you , that in accepting this office , with all its duties and responsibilities , I have fully determined " to exert the utmost of my powers to enable me faithfully and efficiently to discharge those duties . It lias over been my ambition since I was made a Mason , and during the whole of the time I have served the different offices , to attain to my present position ; hut believe me , Brethren , it has been no vain idea that has prompted me to aspire to this chair , —no idea that , if I ouce occupied it for twelve months ,
