Chaplain , I . G . ; and invested Bro . Mathews , Treas . The Brethren then proceeded to a most elegant banquet , which was enlivened by some excellent singing . The visitors were Bios , the Bev . J . S . Sidebotham , Prov . G . Chap .,. Oxfordshire , No . 425 ; Mobbs , No . 215 ; Shuter , No . 223 ; Davis , P . M ., No . 112 ; and Dr . Grant , of the Caledonian Lodge , Scotland , all of whom expressed themselves highly delighted with this sample of a soldier ' s fare .

Canonbuet Lodge ( No . 955 ) . —The members of this Lodge met on Tuesday , January 13 th , at the Canonbury Tavern ; Bro . A . J . Duff Filer , W . M ., in the chair . The business of the evening consisted of the passing of Bro . Edward Cox ; the initiation of Mr . George Buke ; and the election of W . M ., Treasurer , and Tyler , for the ensuing year . Bro . Thomas Bohn was elected W . M . ; Bro . Filer re-elected Treasurer ; and Bro . George Young , Tyler . The Lodge , although not yet twelve months old , has made great progress , numbering more than twenty members , and bids fair to become one of the first in the Craft . The Installation is fixed for Tuesday , the 10 th inst .

INSTRUCTION . Confidence Lodge ( No . 228 ) . —At the meeting of this Lodge , at Bro . Wade-, son ' s , Bengal Arms , Birchin Lane , City , on the 14 th January , the fifteen sections were ably worked—Bro . Anslow presiding and putting the questions . The lectures , were worked as follows : —first lecture—1 st section , Bro . Cotterill ; 2 nd , Bro . Brett ; 3 rd , Bro . Bussen ; 4 th , Bro . Duiker ; 5 th , Bro . Cotterill ; 6 th , Bro .

Brett ; 7 th , Bro . Duiker . Second lecture—1 st section , Bro . Brewer ; 2 nd , Pro . Newnham ; 3 rd , Bro . Cotterill ; 4 th , Bro . Newnham ; 5 th , Bro . Stacey . Third lecture—1 st section , Bro . Jackson ; 2 nd , Bro . Cotterill ; 3 rd , Bro . Brett .

Emulation Lodge of Improvement ( No . 318 ) . —At the meeting of this Lodge on Friday , January 23 rd , it was resolved to repeal that part of the Byedaws which gives to members of three years' standing the privilege of becoming annual members on the payment of 10 s . a year . A committee was appointed to revise the Byedaws .

Lodge or United Bilgrims ( No . 745 ) . —This Lodge of Instruction met at the Clayton ' s Arms Tavern , Kenning ton Oval , on Friday , January 16 th , for the purpose of working the ceremony of Installation , which was most ably performed by Bro . J . Thomas , B . M . of the Lodge of "United Bilgrims ; Bro . Percy Moss was the candidate . There was a goodly assembly of Brethren present on the

occasion , who expressed the pleasure they had derived from witnessing the correct and efficient manner in which the business of the evening had been carried out . The Lodge being closed , the Brethren partook of a supper provided by their worthy host ( Bro . C . Foulsharn , P . M . of the Lodge of Begularity , No . 108 ) , which gave general satisfaction ; and the evening rapidly passed with social harmony , enlivened by the excellent singing of some of the Brethren , not forgetting the worthy host .

BERKSHIRE . Newbury / . —Loyal Berkshire Lodge of Hope ( No . 839 ) . —The anniversary meeting of this Lodge was held at the Three Tuns Hotel , on Friday , January 2 , Bro . Laing , W . M ., presiding . A Brother was passed to the 2 nd Degree , a gentleman duly initiated into the Order , and another candidate put in nomination for the next meeting . Bro . E . Astlcy , of Hunger ford , was installed as W . M . for 1857 , by Bro . William Watson , P . M ., No . 23 , who attended from London for the purpose .
