best endeavours to render the meeting which would be held in July next , at Ryde , equally joyous and happy as the last . The W . M ., in proposing the health of the immediate P . M ., Bro . Prost , spoke of the admirable attention he had given to his duties . During the last year his

exertions had been the means of raising the Lodge to a state of high prosperity . This was the feeling of the Brethren , and so much was his conduct approved that they were unanimous in voting him a jewel as a testimonial of their esteem ; and he hoped Bro . Prost would see many years of happiness and health to wear it in that Lodge . ( Cheers . )

Bro . Prost said , nothing but his position in the Lodge would have induced him to be present on that day , having so recently returned from the dying-bed of his esteemed friend Bro . Burges , the W . M . of the G . Steward ' s Lodge . In acknowledgment for the handsome present and the good wishes of his Brethren , he hoped long to be enabled to continue his exertions in their service . "The W . Ms , and Brethren of the Bhcenix and Royal Sussex Lodges" was acknowledged by Bros . Pord and Harrington .

Bro . Hyde Pullen , in responding to the toast of "The Masonic Charities , " gave the Brethren an outline of the nature of the several institutions , and said he had one short observation to make on a point that he thought was lost sight of by Masons themselves , which was that the grand object of Freemasonry was an active and not a passive one—it was particularly to do good

rather than to recede it ; and he called on the Brethren , especially at the present time , to give their support to the Boys' School , by becoming subscribers or life governors without delay , and thus secure the election of a candidate from their own province on the 19 th January . Several Brethren , we are pleased to learn , promptly gave their subscriptions . The meeting shortly afterwards broke up .

Winchester . —Lodge of Economy ( No . 90 ) . —On the 26 th December , the Brethren of this Lodge celebrated the Pestival of St . John the Evangelist in the usual manner . S . Haslem , I . G . ; Isaac Snary , Org . ; Wm . Cowen , Sec . ; Geo . B . Jacob , Treas . ; H . Grant , Tyler . In the evening the Brethren dined together at the Black Swan Hotel .

HERTFORDSHIRE . Bekkhampstead . —Berlchampstead Lodge ( No . 742 ) . —This Lodge held its installation meeting at the King ' s Arms Hotel on Wednesday , January 7 ; the attendance being more select than numerous . Bro . Law , W . M ., Prov . G . D ., having opened the Lodge , and some formal business being gone through , Bro . H . G . Warren , B . M .. No . 202 , installed Bro . Thane as W . M . for the ensuing year . The

Officers apj ) ointed were Bros . Webber , Prov . G . D ., S , W . ; Warren , J . W . ; Hale , Treas . ; and H . Hale , J . D . The Lodge is much in want of an infusion of new blood . Bros . Burton , Harrison , Norman , and Sugars , were proposed as joining members . At the close of the business , the Brethren dined together and passed a couple of hours very pleasantly .

ISLE OF WIGHT . ViiiNTNOR . —Yarborough Lodge ( No . 809 ) . — -This Lodge met on the 19 th of December for the installation of the W . M ., Bro . J . F . Briant . The ceremony was most efficiently gone through by Bro . Hyde Bullen , D . Prov . G . M .
