G . M . All business ended , the Brethren retired to banquet at Bro . Dawson ' s , the Vine Hotel ,

KENT . Margate . — -Union Lodge ( No . 149 ) . —On Priday , the 2 nd of January , this Lodge met for the purpose of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . Hayward . The ceremony was nobly performed by Bro . Osmond Phipps , P . M ., Prov . G . Org . The following Brethren were appointed Officers for the ensuing year : — -Bros . Feakins , S . W . ; B ,. Stockley , J . W . : Poussett , Treas . and Sec . : Walton , S . D . ; Bobinson ,

J . D . ; Lyons , I . G . ; A . Hamilton , Tyler . Previous to the installation , Bro . Phipps initiated Capt . G . A . Pisher , 1 st regt . of Bengal Native Infantry , into the 1 st Degree of Preemasonry , and raised Bros . Grothall and Lyons to the Degree of M . M .

Bamsg-ate . —Royal Navy Lodge ( No . 521 ) . —On the 7 th December , 1856 , a numerous meeting of the members of this Lodge took place ; on which occasion Bro . Hodge was installed W . M . for the ensuing year , by our excellent P . M ., Bro . Osmond G . Phipps , Prov . G . Org ., & c , who performed the beautiful ceremony with his usual ability . The W . M . appointed and invested the following Brethren his Officers : —B . Z . Hiscocks , P . M . ; W . Cooke , S . W . ; G . Stevens , J . W . ; B . Hiscocks , Sec . ; S . Beeching , Treas . ; Cowley , S . D . ; Lemm , J . D . ; Turrell , I . G . ; Moynes , Tyler . At seven o ' clock the Brethren sat down to an excellent repast , and good fellowship and kindly intercourse prevailed till eleven o ' clock , at which hour the Brethren separated .

LANCASHIEE . Blackburn . —Lodge of Perseverance ( No . 432 ) . —This active Lodge held its meeting for the celebration of St . John ' s Day , on the evening of the 29 th December , when numerous visitors favoured the Brethren with their company . Among the assemblage we noticed Bros . Brock-Hollingshead , Brov . G . J . W ., and Wilding , Brov . G-. Sword-bearer , East Lancashire ; Jackson , No . 130 ; Hornby , P . M .., No . 481 , and several other distinguished members of the Craft . In all above thirtv Brethren met together according to ancient custom . Prior to the banquet ,

the W . M . Bro . Henry Backhouse was installed by Bro . Clough , B . Brov . G . Beg ., East Lancashire , & c , and the W . M . nominated and appointed the Officers for the year , and invested them and the elective Officers . The Brethren present then adjourned to enjoy the recherche banquet , provided in the worthy hostess ' s usual magnificent style , after which the evening was spent in a most delightful manner . The usual loyal and patriotic toasts having been ' given , and the G . M . and the Brov . G . M . having been proposed and heartily responded to , the W . M . proposed the D . Brov . G . M . and the Bast and Present Prov . G . Officers of East Lancashire , counlinrr therewith Bro . Broclv-Hollmorshead . who in resoondiner expressed his

Grand Lodge , which he trusted would meet with the support they deserved—he alluded more particularly to the local Bund of Benevolence . During the delivery of his speech the worthy Brother was loudly applauded . The toast of our ic Visiting Brethren " was proposed hy " . Bro . Cloiurh , and eloquently replied to by Bro .

W ., in proposing " Our Absent Brethren , " alluded in feeling terms to several Brethren absent from various causes : two who had graced that board a year before had been removed by deathone the Master of the Lodge ( the late Bro .
