Lancashire , Bro . Bev . Gilmour Bobinson , who had fully intended being present . * After several other toasts had been honoured , the company separated , the most fraternal feelings having been manifested throughout the proceedings , Bros . Sharpies , Gillibrand , Lofthouse , and Backhouse having greatly contributed thereto by their excellent singing . The regular Lodge meeting of No . 432 was held on the evening of the 6 th January , the W . M ., Bro . Backhouse , presiding .
The usual business of the Lodge having been transacted , Bro . Walsh , jun ., was balloted for , and elected joining member of the Lodge . The week following a meeting of Emergency was held , when Bros . Gillibrand and Tattersall were passed to the Degree of P . O . by Bro . Clough , P . M . and P . Prov . G . Beg . Bros . Baynsford Jackson { J . P . ) and Ainsworth ( Toivn-clerh ) were proposed as joining members , and a gentleman was proposed for initiation and membership .
Bolton . —Anchor and Hope Lodge ( No . 44 ) . —The members of this , the premier Lodge in the province of East Lancashire , celebrated the festival of St . John the Evangelist , on Thursday , the 8 th January . The Lodge business commenced at three o ' clock , P . M . Bro . Musgrave , the W . M ., in the chair . Bro . Dr . Sinclair , late of Barbadoes , West Indies , was admitted a joining member of the Lodge . A gentleman who was proposed for initiation at the last meeting was balloted for and approved , and one also proposed as a candidate for initiation at the next
regular meeting of the Lodge . Dinner was provided at five . Bro . Musgrave took the chair , supported by Bros . Edward Barlow , Prov . G . Treas . ; T . P . Pollitt , Prov . G . Beg , ; Dr . Sinclair , Blackmore , Patrick , S . D . ; Thomas Dawson , Sec . No . 44 , and S . W . No . 436 ; and W . H . Wright , P . M . No . 170 , and Dir . of Cer . No . 44 . Bro . Tunnah , Prov . G . Brethren . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to . In responding to the toast " the Provincial Grand Officers , " Bro . Pollitt , Prov . G . Beg ., took occasion to observe that the B . W . Prov . Grand Master was determined that the appointment of Prov . Grand Officers should not be nominal , but that he had intended them to be workers , and that they had now an opportunity , by heartily co-operating in the scheme of Masonic Benevolence and Annuity
established in the province , to show forth their good deeds , and make East Lancashire a pattern for the other provinces and an example for all Masons to follow . Bro . Barlow , Brov . G . Treas ., presented to the Lodge a valuable collection of books , to form the nucleus of a Masonic library for the use of the Brethren , a proposition which met with the warm approbation of the Brethren , and elicited a unanimous vote of thanks . The Brethren , having spent a most agreeable evening , separated at nine o ' clock .

John ' s Lodge ( No . 268 ) . —The annual reunion of this distinguished Lodge took place on Wednesday the 20 th January , 1857 , at the Commercial Hotel , Bolton , when about sixty members of the Craft attended . In the temporary absence of Bro . Fitznewton , the W . M . the Lodge was opened by Bro . George P . Brockbank , B . M . and Sec , assisted by Bros . Mitchell , W . M ., elect as S . W ., and Thomas Entwistle as J . W . ; Bro . Stephen Blair , B . W . Brov . G . M . for East Lancashire being present at the right of the acting " W . M . The ceremony of installing the W . M . elect was then performed in a masterly and impressive
manner by Bro . John Tunnah , Brov . G . Bee . and a B . M . of this Lodge , assisted by Bro . W . Dawson , Prov . G . Tyler , and also a P . M .. of this Lodge ; after which Bro . Mitchell , the W . M ., proceeded to invest and appoint the following Brethren to the respective offices named : —Bros . Hughes , S . W . ; T . Entwisle , J . W . ; G . B . Brockbank , Sec . ( sixth time ); Thomas Mitchell , S . D . ; W . Bawden , J . D . ; Samuel Mitchell , I . G . ; It . Dean , Steward ; Bro . William Blatt was unanimously re-elected Treas ., but in consequence of illness was not present to be invested ; Bro . W . Dawson was re-elected Tyler , and Bro , Joseph Howarth invested with
