Provincial.

B . W . Prov . G . M . /" Colonel Vernon , " was proposed from the chair in a highly eulogistic speech , the W . M . observing that the B . W . Brother was so well known to them all , that any lengthy remarks from him were not needed ; he called upon the Brethren to drink to the health of their B . W . Prov . G . M ., long life and happiness to him . The toast was received with loud cheers and full Masonic honours . The R . W . Brother , in responding , again expressed the great pleasure he felt at being present , and thanked the Brethren for the verv cordial reception

they had given him . He naturally felt great pride at presiding over such a province as Staffordshire , and it always gave him pleasure to visit the Lodges in his province . He had before mentioned the gratification he had felt in witnessing the great improvement that had taken place in the working of the Lodge during the last two years , and remarked that when he found such to be the case , he gave the Praise to those to whom it was due : on the other hand , he did not swerve -. .. .

J . 7 3 ~ _ ___ from what he considered to be his duty , by calling the Brethren to account when he found things otherwise . Before he sat down , he called upon them to fill their glasses to do honour to one to whom it was justly due , namely , their R . W . Brov . G . M ., Bro . Ward . A man more devoted to the Craft was not to be found in the province , and he should not have selected him for his deputy , if he had not been convinced that he was placing the important trust in competent hands . He was not only a most devoted and thorough Mason , but one of the oldest Masons in the province ( Bro . Ward had been a Mason more than fifty years ) , and he called

on tliem to drink his health in a bumper—all honour to his grey hairs ( loud cheers ) . The R . W . Bro . Ward , on rising to respond , was loudly cheered . He said , for what the R . W . Prov . G . M . had said , he thanked him and also the Brethren present for the way in which they had received the toast ; he felt , however , he did not deserve all the flattering remarks made about him , and yet he had their noble Craft so much at heart , that he was always ready to do as much as in him lay to advance its interests . If he omitted anything , it was not from being unwilling to perform it , but from inability . He felt the responsibility of his position , and was particularly gratified at the confidence his B . W . friend placed in him , and he assured them

that his best efforts should always be extended to the furtherance 01 Masonry . The toast of the Wardens and other Officers of the Prov . G . L . was next proposed by Bro . P . M . Henry Hall , and responded to by Bro . A . Glover , P . G . J . W . The W . M . then proposed the health of their late W . M ., and paid a high compliment to him for the efficient manner in which he had filled the office during the past year . Bro . Dilworth returned thanks for the honour done him in a few suitable remarks . The R . W . Prov . G . M ., taking up the gavel , proposed " The health of the W . M . " Pie was convinced the interests of the Lodge would not suffer decay in the hands of so worthy and experienced a Mason . Bro . Hallam responded ,

remarking that he had acceded with pleasure to the expressed wish of the Brethren that he would allow himself to be placed in the chair for the ensuing year . He had served the office some years ago , and begged to assure them that he would strive to fill it now to the satisfaction of the Brethren of the Lodge . The following toasts were also given and duly honoured : —" The Visitors , " "The Wardens and other Officers of No . 671 , " " The Bast Officers of No . 761 , " 11 All Boor and distressed Masons , " & c . The Lodge was then duly and properly closed , and the Brethren separated at an early hour .

Tipton . — Noah ' s Ark Lodge ( No . 435 ) . —The Brethren of this Lodge met at their Masonic Hall , attached to the Navigation Inn , on Friday , Jan . 16 th . After the usual business , the W . M ., Bro . Howells , passed Bro . Edwards to the 2 nd Degree , and afterwards installed the W . M . elect , Bro . K S . Cresswell . The officers of the Lodge were subsequently invested as follows : — Bros . Wareing , S . W . ; J . Davis , J . W . ; W . Underbill , 8 . 1 ) . ; W . Waterhouse , J . I ) . : J . P . Haynes ,

Steward ; and W . Holcroft , I . G . After the Lodge was closed , the Brethren adjourned to celebrate the Festival of St . John : and amongst the visitors present we observed Bros . Hayes , P . M ., No . 7 61 ) ; Herbert , W . M ., No . 31 . 3 ; Robinson , W . M ., No . 78 ( 1 ; Cooke , W . M ., No . 607 ; Pursall , B . M ., No . 88 ; Davison , No . 099 ; Bottcley ; llenning , No . 838 ; & c . & c . The usual Masonic toasts were given and , in proposing the health of the W . M ., the immediate P . M ., Bro ,
