" Metropolitan Chapter of Rose Croix . —A meeting of this distinguished Chapter was held at Preemasons' Hall on Tuesday , January 13 , presided over by the 111 . G . Insp . Gen . John A . D . Cox , as M . W . Sov . ; there being also present the M . P . Sov . Com . Dr . Henry Beaumont Leeson the M . 111 . G . Inq . Gen . and
Lieut . G . Com . Lieut . Col . George Vernon ; the 111 . G . Treas . Gen . Charles John Yigne ; the 111 . Sov . G . Insp . Gen . Sir John De la Pole , Bart . ; and the 111 . Insp . Gen . and Capt . of Life Guards Matthew Dawes . The 111 . Bro . George Beauchamp Cole was installed as M . W . Sov . of the Chapter , by Bro . J . A . D . Cox . Bro . John Symonds was affiliated as a member of the Chapter , on taking and subscribing the oath of allegiance . Bros . George Wm . Hind and Edwin Augustus Porcher were also admitted into this Sublime Degree ; the full ceremonial being
conducted by Bro . Cole in the most dignified manner . The Sov . then appointed the following Brethren to the respective Offices : —Dr . Jones , 1 st Gen . and Hon . Sec . ; Dr . Kent , 2 nd Gen . ; Rev . W . Bowyer , Prelate ; Hugh D . Sandeman , Marshal ; S . Rawson , Raphael ; R . Spencer , Capt . of Lines . There were present besides these Brethren named , Capt . H . A . Bowyer , Dr . R . H . Goolden , Dr . Hinxman , Pr . H . Shuttleworth , Hyde Pullen , William F . Moore , Alexander W . Adair , J . Stone , Charles Goolden , & c . The ceremonies concluded , the Chapter w as closed in solemn form .
We cannot sufficiently praise the Supreme Council for the care bestowed on the preparations of the chambers and for the majestic manner in which the entire ceremonial of this Sublime Degree was conducted ; the ceremony and the Officers were alike perfect , and their completeness reflected the highest credit on all concerned . The Brethren then adjourned to banquet , under the Presidency of Bro . Cole ; and after due justice had been done to a well-spread table , and the usual loyal toasts
been given , the Sovereign of the Chapter rose and proposed the " Health of the 111 . Bro . Dr . Leeson , the M . P . Sov . G . Com ., " whose exertions in the cause of Masonry , and whose learning and high intellectual attainments were the means of establishing these Orders in the satisfactory manner they were at present . Without intelligence at the fountain-head , it would have been in vain to expect the perfection to which they had arrived . Por this condition they were indebted to the 111 . Brother , and he was sure that the homage of all true Masons would be always rendered to him .
Dr . Leeson , in reply , said , that although taken somewhat by surprise by his name being thus early noticed , accustomed as he was to the kindness of the Brethren , he would endeavour to pour from an overcharged heart some acknowledgment for his great obligation to those around him . He was proud and pleased at seeing the Ancient and Accepted Rite thus firmly established , receiving so constantly accessions of strength ; and looking back to the great difficulties they had had to surmount , the present position of the Orders was most gratifying , and to him a great reward . Before he sat down , he desired to call the attention of the Brethren to the merits of the President of that day . He
( Dr . Leeson ) had seen the accomplishment of his great desire , in observing the power of Sovereign of this Degree placed in the hands of one most ardent for its success , and , as all had witnessed , one who by study had made himself most efficient in performing correctly and impressively the interesting ceremonials . Bro . Cole was surrounded by Brethren equally ardent in the cause , and who would , he was sure , render every aid to lighten the duties of the Sovereign . The Brethren appointed to the various Offices that day would , he was satisfied , vie with each other in endeavouring to discharge the duties in a way essential to the well performing of the ceremonies .
Bro . Cole next proposed a cordial welcome and thanks for their presence to the members of the Supreme Grand Council , those Brethren to whom they owed allegiance , from whose presence that day much of the beauty and impreasivenesB of the ceremonials were derived , and indeed , he might say , the spirit with YOIi .
