The proceedings of the day concluded with a ball , which continued until a late hour .

PEEBLES . Peebles Itilwinning Lodge ( No . 24 ) . —This old and thriving Lodge met on Monday , the 29 th December , to celebrate the Festival of Ste John and transact other business connected with their Masonic funds . After defraying every expense connected with the Lodge , assisting the sick , holding out a helping hand to a poor and penniless Brother when occasion required , and contributing to the legitimate purposes of Masonry , the funds showed an increase of upwards of

fifteen pounds . After the ordinary business of the society , the Brethren walked in procession through the town with all their emblems and flags , headed by the Peebles Flute Band , whose enlivening strains added not a little to the day ' s enjoyment . They subsequently sat down to a sumptuous dinner , provided by their hostess , Mrs . Potts . The Lodge met again at seven o ' clock in the evening , when the new Office-bearers were installed in due form , and with the usual Masonic ceremonies . After spending a very happy evening , with loyal and

Masonic toasts and songs , the Brethren broke up at high twelve , much gratified with their social and friendly intercourse . At the close of the day ' s proceedings , the Brethren cordially and unanimously moved a vote of thanks to their energetic and highly-gifted R . W . M . Bro . Archibald Donaldson , jun ., whose unwearied zeal and successful efforts have quadrupled the usual number of entries for the last year , and given a new impetus to Masonry in this quarter .
