Grand Superintendent , a vote of thanks was unanimously passed to V . E . Comp . W . Clark , for having conducted the duties of Treasurer to the District Grand Chapter ; and he was now elected by acclamation to fill that post . V . E . Comp . Clark acknowledged the compliment and accepted the office . The D . Prov . Grand Superintendent stated , that agreeably to - By-law XII ., the Treasurer ' s accounts should have been audited by the first Principals of the Chapters and two of the Grand Officers ; but that as the former did not attend , fhe accounts had been audited by E . Comps . Gray and Roberts . The following is an abstract : —

Balance of Account on the 23 rd May , 1853 1 , 289 14 10 Receipts up to this date 1 , 595 4 0 . 2 , 885 2 10 Disbursements up to this date 1 , 545 13 6 Balance on the 24 th September , 1856 .... Rupees .. 1 , 339 5 4

On a proposition by M . E . Comp . W . J . Judge , seconded by M . E . Comp . D . Monteith , the accounts , as audited by E . Comps . Gray and Roberts , were passed . The D . Prov . Grand Superintendent stated that he had a question before him as to what should be done with the surplus funds which had accumulated since the last Convocation in 1853 . It had been suggested that clothing and paraphernalia should be purchased ; but the Prov . Grand Superintendent was of opinion that the money should be reserved , pending the submission of the scheme which was under the consideration of the " Freemasons' Hall Association , " when it might serve as the nucleus of a Building Fund . It was proposed by M . E . Comp . W .

J . Judge , seconded by E . Comp . H . Eraser , that Rs . 1 , 000 be invested in Government Securities , and reserved for building purposes . E . Comp . J . H . De Salis , seconded by E . Comp . B . F . Ross , then moved an amendment , which was carried , viz ., that Rs . 1 , 000 be kept for the above object , but that it be invested in such a manner as the Prov . Grand Superintendent might hereafter determine . The number of Chapters in this district is now twelve , or three more than the number shown at the last Convocation in 1853 . They are as follows , including two ( Nos . 381 and 648 ) which are dormant : —Jlope , Calcutta , No . 126 ; Unity with Concord , Chunar , No . 381 ; Valor with Perseverance , Allahabad , No . 550 ; Holy Zion , Calcutta , No . 551 ; Firm Jlope , Meerut , No . 596 ; Harmony and Fidelity ,

Cawnpore , No . 641 ; Industry , Kurnaul , No . 648 ; Dalhousie , Simla , No . 673 ; LLoly Jerusalem , Agra , No . 761 ; Umballa , TJmballa , No . 823 ; Border , Peshawur , No . 852 ; St . John the Baptist , Mussoorie , No . 922 . The D . Prov . Grand Superintendent read the following minute : — MINUTE . It was recently brought to my notice that an unpleasant feeling had been excited among some of our R . A . Masons , by the belief that they were inadmissible into the Chapter working in Calcutta under the Grand Chapter of Scotland ,
