The Board of Stewards immediatel y issued the following circular : — SIR AND BROTHER , —I am requested to inform you that the Public Festival , appointed to be held on the 31 st instant , is unavoidably deferred .

P . S ; The President and Board of SteAvards having engaged Brother Lovegroye ' s . large room , are most desirous , with the approbation of the subscribers , to meet their friends as a private party , on the 3 lst of July , Avith the view of preventing disappointment to those AVIIO have made arrangements to attend . I beg , therefore , to request the favour of an intimation from you , on or before the 24 th instant , Avhether they may expect the favour of your company , as a definitive order will be given on that day . HoAvever happily the day of pleasure passed on the 31 st July , some draAvback ivas necessarily felt in the reflection , that on that clay was to have assembled the elite of Masonry , and in aid of its noblest object ; yet the day Avas a happy one . The President , Treasurer , and Secretary , of the Board of Grand SteAvards , Brothers Bell , Prescott , audRoAve , as also Brothers Johnson , from Bath , Acklam , of the British , Graeffe , of the Grand Master ' s Lodge , Hall , of the Tuscan , Halton , of the
Burlington , W . T . Smith , of the Peace and Harmony , ancl L . Chandler , of the St . Paul ' s , ivere among the number . Brother Collyer travelled many miles to attendhis duty , and favoured his brethren with several songs . " Brother Wilson , of the English Opera , delivered the address in compliment to Douglas Jerrold , the author , Avho was present . The chairman , Brother Bell , took care there should be no lack of spirit ; and , in the happiness of the moment , Ave at th
leng forgot the greater disappointment . As the late Peter Gilkes used to say , " If Ave were not very numerous , we Avere very respectable ; " yet Peter once accidentally reversed his adjectives , much to his annoyance . The Brethren at the East end of the town are emulous in rivalling the exertions of those ivho so successfull y conducted the arrangements at the English Opera , in May last , ancl have engaged the Pavilion Theatre , for the 26 th of October , for the same laudable purpose of aiding the funds of the asylum . We haA'e no doubt of their successthe Craft will do its duty , in making a bumper house .
