MISCELLANEOUS . The Wellington Statue at Manchester was inaugurated on the 30 th August . It forms a companion to tbe Peel Statue in front of the Infirmary , the finest site in Manchester , and close to the railway-station and post-office . An invitation from the Government to sculptors of all nations to compete for the designing and erection of a monument in St . Paul ' s Cathedral to the memory of the late Duke of Wellington has just been issued . The specifications state that the total cost of the monument is not to exceed £ 20 , 000 ,- —of course exclusive of the prizes , which are on the following scale ;—

the Crimea , were entertained in a large and handsomely-decorated marquee , erected on the Governor ' s Green at Portsmouth , with a substantial dinner of old English fare . On the following evening there was a grand dinner in the same marquee , under the presidency of Lord George Lennox ; about 200 of the inhabitants having invited nearly as many military and naval officers to meet them . The whole of the proceedings passed off with the utmost eclat , Bros . Bathe , Fringe , and Palmer , of the London Tavern , being the caterers .

James Pennethorne , the architect , which forms a most extensive addition to the original work by Sir William Chambers , and is now rapidly advancing towards completion . By an enactment in the new County Courts Act it is provided that no action shall be brought in a county court on any judgment of a superior court .

Princess ' s Theatre . —After a brief recess , this theatre re-opened its doors on the 1 st September with a revival of Sheridan ' s play of " Pizarro , " which has been produced and placed upon the stage with the utmost splendour . Mr . and Mrs . Kean sustain the characters of Folia and Elvira . The other characters are most excellently filled . The house , on the night of the revival , thundered its approbation , and a new success was achieved—a success that no one thinks of wondering at . The astonishment is for the prodigious amount of pains taken , of means employed , and of talent displayed .
Dkury Lane . —Bro . E . T . Smith opened this house for the season on the 15 th . The house has been redecorated , and now presents a very cheerful appearance . A new candidate for histrionic honours , a Mrs . Emma Waller , made her appearance with a great flourish of trumpets of her extraordinary abilities , as shown by critiques in Australian and Californian papers . Mrs . Waller , who appeared as
Pauline in the < c Lady of Lyons , " although not all that has been represented , is a lady-like , sensible , painstaking actress , and will prove an acquisition to the company . Mr . Barry Sullivan was the Claude Melnotte , and the piece was generally well performed . On the 22 nd , a new burlesque " Pizarro , , r from the pen of P > ro . C J . Collins , was produced , and met with complete success , The Rolla of Mrs . Keeley and the Pizarro of her husband were irresistible .
Lyceum .- —This house opened on the same evening , under the management of Mr . Dillon , formerly of Dublin and Manchester . The opening piece was " Belphegor the Mountebank , " in which the lessee and his wife , and Bro . J . L . Toole
