This was the first autumnal show on a large scale , and may be regarded only as an experiment , the success of which will lead to its being the prelude to more extensive arrangements for future years . BRO . J . R . NEWSAM . Died , on the 13 th September , at Walsall , Bro . James Ramsey Newsam , Prov , J . G . W . of Staffordshire ; P . M . of the Lodge of St . Matthew , No . 786 ; P . Z . of the Vernon Chapter , No . 786 ; a member of the Jerusalem Lodge , No . 233 ; and of the Lodge of Light , No . 689 . Bro . Newsam was a most ardent supporter of our Order , and a zealous and indefatigable member of the Lodge of St . Matthew , by the Brethren of which Lodge he was highly respected and esteemed . His
remains were interred in the churchyard of Great Barr , in the county of Stafford , and were followed by about thirty of his Masonic Brethren . That the respect in which he was held was not confined to the district in which he resided , the following extract from the Belfast Mercury ( of which town he was a native ) , will show : — "The melancholy intelligence of the death of our townsman , James Ramsey Newsam , Esq ., was received yesterday morning , and excited , among a very large circle of attached friends , the deepest feelings of regret . He was , at
one period , a partner in an eminent commercial firm in this town , and of late has been associated in railway and mining operations with his brother-in-law , our eminent townsman , J . R . McClean , Esq ., C . E . He was one of those men imbued with the milk of human kindness , whose delight is in giving pleasure to all around ; and with these kindly characteristics he united great firmness of character , candour , sterling integrity , and a high sense of all that is upright and honourable in conduct . "

Baumer was initiated in the Caledonian Lodge , No . 156 , on the 1 st of April , 1816 , and joined the Cyrus Chapter on the 2 nd March , 1820 , and subsequently went through tho various offices to the great satisfaction of the Brethren . After serving the office of Grand Steward , Bro . Baumer was , in 1844 , appointed as G . D . and Assist . G . S . in G . Chapter .
