BENEVOLENT . At a meeting of the Female Orphan Asylum , Westminster Road , on tho 4 th , a letter was read from the Duke of Cambridge , accepting the five presentations placed at his disposal for the orphans of soldiers or sailors slain in the present war . The children are now , to a great extent , employed by the Duchess of Kent and the Princess Mary in knitting stockings for the use of the army in the Crimea . The number of children now in tiie school is GO ; more than 2600 iiaving been brought up in it

, since the establishment in 1758 . The total ordinary receipts for the past year were only £ 3 , 638 8 * . 9 d ., whilst the expenditure amounted to £ 4 , 142 13 s .-The City of London Hospital for Diseases of the Chest , held its annual meeting on , the 9 th , Avhen a report was read AA'hich said " during the year 1854 , 4 , 570 ne ' , v cases have been admitted , making a total of 22 , 815 cases admitted since the charity was first established . During the last year the donations have amounted to £ 3 , 563 lis . Id . ancl the subscriptions to £ 759 7 s . 6 f ? . ; the total receipts from these and other sources

being £ 4 , 822 12 s . lie ? . The disbursements during the year have amounted to £ 10 , G 27 18 s . lid . ; of AA'hich £ 1 , 913 17 s . 3 c 7 . was expended in defraying the current expenses of the charity , ancl £ 8 , 714 Is . St ? . haA'e been paid on account of the new building . To meet these expenses , the £ 500 invested in the stocks has been sold out , and a loan of £ 5 , 382 17 s . has been obtained from the Treasury , leaving a balance of £ 312 Gs . 7 c 7 . in the hands of the bankers . It will thus be seen that , there is a total deficiency of £ 5 , 570 10 s . 5 c 7 . " The report was adopted , ancl resolutions passed pledging the meeting to use every exertion to relieve tho hospital from debt .

MISCELLANEOUS . The total revenue of the United Kingdom for tho year ending on the 5 th , Avas £ 54 , 531 , 154 . The receipts of the quarter ending on the same date AA-as £ 17 , 134 , 400 . The increase on the quarter amounted to £ 1 , 440 , 567 , and on the year at £ 2 , 291 , 356 . One fourth of the County Court Judges haA'e had their salaries increased from £ 1 , 200 to £ 1 , 500 a year .

Miss Mitford , the talented authoress of "' Our Village , " & c , died on the 10 th , aged GG . She had long been confined to her house by illnes * . Cull , the Secretary , specially called attention to this Exhibition as peculiarly interesting , and the truest to nature which he , as an Ethnologist , had ever seen . We need not , endorse such an opinion with any recommendation of ours .
