faction to the Brethren of the Lodge , he was sufficiently repaid by having been elected Master of the Lodge by the unanimous voice of the Brethren . The P . M . ' s , Visitors , and other toasts having been drunk , the W . M . proposed Bro . Isaac Saqui , Sec . and P . M ., expressing his admiration of his talent as a Mason , and thanking him for the able manner in which he had discharged his duties as Secretary to this Lodge for a term of fifteen years . He felt much pleasure in adding that it was chiefly owing to the instruction of that Brother he was enabled to

discharge his Masonic duties . Bro . Saqui , in expressing his thanks for the compliment paid him , stated that he felt highly proud in hearing his name so kindly mentioned . He was not one of those to give praise in Masonry where it was not due ; but he felt that the Brethren would agree with him , from what they had heard that evening , that during the thirty years he had been a member of the Craft , he had never heard the ceremonies worked in a more beautiful and elegant manner than they were on the present occasion . The health of the Wardens and the rest of the Officers having been given , the Brethren separated in perfect harmony .

St . Andbew ' s Lodge ( No . 281 ) .- —At 4 he meeting of this Lodge , on the 3 rd of January , Bro . Dr . Paul , of Camber well , was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year . Lodge of Union ( No . 318 ) . —At the last meeting of this Lodge on the 7 th January , Bro . J . Hervey installed Bro . Green as W . M . for the year 1856 . The Master invested his officers as follows : Bros . Green , W . M . ; Luff , S . W . ; Figg , J . W . ; Rouse , Treas . ; Earnfield , Sec . ; Measer , S . D . ; Lambert , J . D . ; Wightman , I . G .

Prince of Wales Lodge ( No . 324 ) . —This highly distinguished Lodge met at the Thatched House Tavern , St . James ' s Street , on Tuesday , January 22 nd . The S . W . was elected W . M . for the ensuing year , and the Father of the Lodge was re-elected Treas . Several noble and distinguished visitors were present . Bros . Lawler , Kingsbury , and Young , were present , and added greatly to the conviviality of the evening by some capital singing .

Bank of England Lodge ( No . 329 ) . —At the meeting of this Lodge , Badley ' s Hotel , on Thursday , the 10 th January , Bro . G . Chance , S . W ., was installed in the chair as W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony being admirably performed by Bro . Whitmore , one of the P . M . s of the Lodge . The W . M . appointed the following officers : S . Salomo , S . W . ; S . W . Hopwood , J . W . ; W . L . W right , P . M ., Treas . ; J . Whitmore , P . M ., Sec . ; A . M . Moore , S . D . ; J . Leslie , J . D . ; W . Addison , I . G . ; W . Imrie , Steward . Bro . Stroughill , on his retiring from

the chair of the Lodge , was presented with a handsome gold P . M . ' s jewel , having the following inscription : i ( Presented to Bro . Charles Stroughill , P . M ., by the members of the Bank of England Lodge , No . 329 , on his retirement from the chair , a ^ s a Fraternal token of their esteem and regard . 1856 / ' After the banquet , which comprised every delicacy of the season , the health of the W . M . was very ably proposed by the immediate P . M . Bro . Stroughill , and drank with enthusiasm . Bro . Chance , in returning thanks , observed , "Be assured ,

Brethren , that in accepting the office , I have not been unmindful of the Masonic duties it imposes , and I trust that when the occasion arises I shall not be found wanting in the performance of those duties . To my past services I will only advert for the purpose of expressing my grateful acknowledgments of your kind appreciation of them , humble as they have been . My future can only be the subject of promise . I will , however , in humble imitation of higher functionaries briefly enunciate the principles on which my administration will be

conducted . First , as regards the important question of w : \ -ys and means , my Chancellor of the Exchequer will at our next meeting lay before you his budget , and , in anticipation of his financial statement , I am happy to say that lie will be prepared , by the exercise of a judicious economy , and without resorting to any crude measures of administrative reform , to meet the expenditure of the coining year , notwithstanding the pressure of war prices and the tightness of the money market , without tho aid of a loan or the imposition of any additional
