Grand Lodge of Forfarshire , of which the Right Hon . Lord Panmure , Lord-Lieutenant of the County , is R . W . G . M . His lordship was duly installed into office on 20 th July ,
1854 , in the Exchange Hall here , in presence of all the Dundee Lodges , and of deputations from many of the other Lodges of the Province . The Prov . G . Office Bearers nominated and appointed on that occasion are—R . W . D . G . M . Sir John Ogilvy , Bart ., of Baldavan ; Sub-G . M . the Bt . Hon . the Earl of Southesk ; S . G . W . Col . T . R . Swinburn , of Marcus ; J . G . W . James Mitchell , Esq ., of Affleck ; G . Ch . Rev . Andrew Taylor , Dundee ; G . Sec . David Small , Esq ., Dundee ; G . Sw . B . James Chalmers , Esq ., of Dundee . Lord Panmure eloquently expressed his anxious desire and intention to promote
by every means in his power , the interests of the Craft ; but it may readily be supposed , that his important and incessant duties as Secretary at War have hitherto prevented him from taking any active part in Masonic affairs . Since the formation of the Prov . G . Lodge , its services have not been called into requisition , except on the occasion of laying the foundation stone of the Dundee Industrial Schools , on the 23 rd October last , when that ceremony was ably performed by Bro . George Duncan , M . P . for Dundee , who was appointed by the Brov . G . M . to fulfil the interesting duty . As Dundee is the largest and most populous town , it is consequently the headquarters of Ereemasonry in the Brovince . There are seven Lodges , all of which are in a state of commendable efficiency . The following are their numbers on the Registry of the Grand Lodge of Scotland , their designations , and the present Right W . M . s : — No . 47 , Dundee Operative , Bro .
