The room was tastefully decorated , and the new Tablets for No . 313 Lodge ( ordered to be prepared for the Ball night ) , with the list of installed Masters , were much admired . We have only space , at the late date upon which the Ball was held , to notice it as above . We may add , however , that the D . P . G . M . and others delivered some good speeches after the supper .
YORKSHIRE , Hull . —Humber Lodge ( No . 65 ) . —The members of this flourishing and wellconducted Lodge held their annual meeting on the 27 th of December ( St . John ' s Day ) , at their Hall , for the installation of Officers for the ensuing year . Bro . William Croft , the W . M . elect , was installed by P . M . Bro . J . Coltman Smith , P . G . R . After the ceremony of installation was concluded , the Brethren adjourned to partake of a sumptuous banquet , provided by Bro . Glover , of the London Hotel . There were sixty-five brethren present , and the W . M . was supported by B . M . Bro . Bannister , the Bt . Worshipful the Mayor of Hull , and by several Provincial Officers and distinguished Masons .
After the customary Masonic toasts had been given , the health of the Worshipful the Mayor of Hull , was most warmly responded to ; and Bro . Bannister , in the course of his reply , stated , that he considered he was indebted to the Humber Lodge for giving him the first lessons in presiding over public meetings , in qualifying him for the conduct of his civil duties during the periods of his mayoralty ; and earnestly expressed his readiness at all times to assist in furthering the interests of the Graft . A variety of other toasts immediately succeeded that
of the "W . M . elect , who was warmly greeted by the Brethren ; and Bro Joseph Coltman Smith , the Installing Master , in responding to the toast of his health , referred to the rise and progress of the Huoiher Lodge ; and stated , that since the year 1835 , when this Lodge commenced a system for the establishment of a Benevolent and Annuity Fund , and other funds for charitable purposes , they had given away in casual relief £ 800 . In addition to this , they were annual
subscribers to the Boys and Girls' School . The Master of the Lodge for the time being had become a Life Governor of both these valuable Institutions , and this , irrespectively of their educating several children of their own members . The Lodge had also , by the payment of twenty guineas , entitled the Master to the privileges of a Governor of the Hull General Infirmary , whereby he was enabled to confer medical relief on sick and infirm Brethren . Their own
Benevolent and Annuity Fund for the relief of their members , had also , by judicious management ( and in this respect the Lodge was greatly indebted to their excellent Treasurer , Bro . Feetam ) , been gradually augmenting , till at the last audit , the balance in their favour had reached the sum of £ 2 , 120 . Their beautiful Masonic ' . Hall was their own freehold , and entirely free from debt ; and the members who now ranked themselves under the banner of the thunber Lodge ,
numbered upwards of two hundred . Altogether , ' the prosperous state of the Lodge was , and justly so , n source of congratulation on the occasion , it reflecting great credit on . thoHO who have zealously and practically carried out the objects of tho Institution . The evening was spent in the greatest harmony ; and all separated , delighted with the entertainment which had been provided .
