Laws of the Grand f Cfiapter , it would long ago have ceased to exist . However , early last year , some of the Companions resolved to attempt its revival , which was fortunately accomplished and greatly accelerated by the opportune visit of a deputation from , the Supreme Grand Chapter , consisting of three distinguished Companions , viz ., Hector Gavin and Wm . Gaylor , of Edinburgh , and Daniel Campbell , of Glasgow . At the Autumnal Equinox the Chapter assembled , and appointed officebearers , conferring the honour of First Principal on Comp . James Chalmers , who formerly held the same office in the Enoch Royal Arch Chapter , Montrose , No . 3 .
The " Union" has been progressing and increasing in numbers most satisfactorily ; and already includes amongst its members many of the elite of the Fraternity in Dundee , amongst whom there are five of the R . W . M . s , four D . M . s , and five P . M . s , besides other officers and Brethren of the various Lodges . The Chapter is provided with suitable regalia and furniture , and the Comps . have generally adopted the regulation clothing and jewels prescribed by the Grand Chapter . The Degrees practised are those of Mark , Bast , and Excellent Masters , and Royal Arch ; and the meetings are held in the ante-room of the Exchange-buildings . The Chapter has been fortunate in obtaining the valuable services of Comp . Wm . Gaylor , Grand Scribe N ., as its Proxy Principal Z . in the Supreme Grand Chapter in Edinburgh .
Glasgow Chapter ( No . 50 ) . — -The Companions held a meeting on the 4 th January , in Saint Mark ' s Hall , Buchanan-street . In the Mark and Past Lodges , opened by Bros . Donald Campbell , as R . W . M . ; James Home , S . W . , and J . N . Sutherland , J . W , ; and a number of Masters and Companions of other Chapters in the Province , Bros . J . Hunter , lieutenant-colonel Bengal infantry , a M . M . of the Lodge Hope , Meerut ; and J . F . Skene , advocate , R . W . M ., of Saint Luke ' s , Edinburgh ,
whose applications were both well recommended , were admitted and installed . At the same date and place the Chapter was formed : —M . E . Comps . D . Campbell , Z . ; J . N . Sutherland ( 1 st Soj . ) , H . ; J . M . Rowan , J . ; Scribes E . and N ., other office-bearers and Comps . Bros . J . F . Skene and J . Hunter were passed through the Excellent and Exalted to the Sublime Degree of R . A . M . M . E . Comp . Campbell gave an elaborate explanatory Essay on the Jewels and geometrical forms and symbols of Arch Masonry , which he illustrated with many diagrams , in order that the various points of intricate and deep though closely connected subjects might be made plain and easily distinguishable . A vote ol thanks to Comp . Campbell was carried , and recorded in the minutes . Comp . Campbell ' s motion , that the Chapter present to the Provincial Grand Chapter for the Western District of Scotland the books necessary to carry on the business of their meetings , was carried unanimously .

Carlow . —The Brethren of the Lodge , No . 205 , Naas , celebrated their annual festival on the 9 th January , with the accustomed solemnities . The Lodge was opened at five o ' clock p . m . to instal the officers for the ensuing ; year , and to present their late Secretary , Bro . William Clarke , with a testimonial of their respect and esteem on the occasion of his retiring from the Lodge , of which he was a distinguished member during a period of fourteen years . Several members of the
Craft from Dublin , Carlow , and Athy were present by invitation . At eight o ' clock P . M . the members adjourned to M'Evoy ' s Hotel , Avhere a very sumptuous dinner , with the usual hospitality of the Lodge , was provided , covers being laid for forty . The chair was occupied by the W . M . of the Lodge , Bro . Thomas de Burgh , of Old Town , " the owner of the soil , " whose ancestors inherited their Naas property by purchase from the trustees of the Earl of Stratford , on the attainder of that unfortunate nobleman during the reign of Charles I .
