The propositions for peace , submitted by Austria to Bussia , having been accepted as the basis of negotiation , conferences are forthwith to be opened at Paris between the representatives of the powers concerned—Lords Clarendon and Cowley are to represent England . Two men , the captain and mate of a Thames barge , are in custody on the charge of having murdered a widow named Mary Peacock , at Teddington .
On the 21 st a man , named John Williams , with several aliases , murdered Sarah Drummond , with whom he had cohabited at Liverpool . Four men were killed by an explosion of a boiler at Tipton , in Staffordshire , on the 14 th . Three gentlemen have been poisoned atDingwell , in Scotland , through monk ' shood having been served up with roast beef instead of horseradish .

During the month the following Companies have held meetings , and declared dividends for the half year : —Colonial Bank , at the rate of 5 per cent , per annum ; London and Westminster Bank , at the rate of 6 percent , per annum , and a bonus of 5 per cent , on the paid-up capital ; London Joint-Stock Bank , £ 12 . 10 s . per cent , per annum , and a bonus of 14 s . 3 c £ . per share , , £ 10 paid ; Union Bank of Australia , 27 per cent , per annum ; St . Katharine ' s Docks , 4 per cent , per annum ; London and Brighton Bail way , £ 2 . 185 . per cent ., making 5 per cent , for the year ; Manchester , Sheffield , and Lincolnshire Bailway , £ percent .
