During the evening , the orchestra , which was efficiently conducted by Mr . Beed , performed , in addition to other pieces , a " Grand Masonic March , " which , considering the limited number of the band , was very ably executed . The entertainments concluded with the laughable farce of A Lover by Proxy , in which Mr . Newcombe sustained , in his usual easy and off-hand style , his favourite character of the dashing Harry Lawless . On making his appearance , he was most enthusiasticall y received .

Poole . —Lodge of Amity ( No . 160 ) . —At a meeting of this Lodge on Wednesday , January 15 , Bro . B . Moores , the W . M . elect , was installed into the chair by Bro . Graves . The W . M . then appointed and invested-his Officers , and the Lodge was closed ; the W . M . inviting the Brethren to partake of refreshment . Wareham . — Lodge of Unity ( No . 542 ) . —The usual St . John ' s Day Banquet was held at the Black Bear Hotel , previous to which a Lodge was held , when James Panton , Esq ., was installed the W . M . for the year ensuing , after which the various Officers of the Lodge were appointed . The evening was passed in a mutual interchange of kindly Masonic feeling .
vVimboene Minster . — Lodge of St . Cuthberga ( No . 905 ) . —The Brethren met on Monday , January 7 , for the purpose of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . Parkinson . The ceremony was performed by that excellent Mason Bro . John Sydenham , Prov . G . M . of the Province , in his accustomed correct manner . Bro . Parkinson , the W . M ., then appointed and invested Bro . Bowe , S . W . ; Bro . Budgeon , J . W . ; and the other Officers . The Lodge being closed , Bro . Parkinson invited the Brethren present to a repast , to which ample justice was done , and concluded a happy day .
DURHAM . Hartlepool . —St . Helens' Lodge ( No . 114 ) . —The annual festival of this flou ^ risking Lodge was held on the 27 th December , 1855 , being the day of St . John the Evangelist . Bro . H . A . llammarbom , the W . M ., raised Bro . John Old to the Sublime Degree of a W . M . ; after the conclusion of which solemn ceremony Bro . Hammarhom , who had been re-elected to fill the chair , was proclaimed W . M . for the ensuing year by Bro . W . J . Hodgson , P . M . The following officers were then appointed and invested . : Bro :- ! . Geo . Moore , S . W . ; Thos . Cockburn , J . W . ; Wm . J . Hodgson , P . M ., Sec . ; 11 . K . Hansen , Treas . ; Simp . Armstrong
and Geo . Sanderson , Deacons ; Jos . Gaskoli , I . G ! -. ; Bob . Smith and Bob . Wilson , Stewards ; and J as . Mowbray , Tyler . All business being ended , the Brethren partook of a sumptuous banquet , provided by Bro . Rob . Wilson , and the eveningwas spent with cheerfulness and brotherly love , in a manner truly Masonic . There were two visitors present , one of whom , being a Sardinian Brother , was treated by the Brethren present with peculiar consideration .
