ISLE OF WIGHT .

Byde . —East Medina Lodge ( No . 204 ) . —The Brethren assembled ar the Masonic Hall on Tuesday , Jan . 8 , for ^ the purpose of installing their new Master . Bro . James Dashwood , the W . M ., presided , and initiated into Masonry Mr . Prancis Newman , of By de . The T . W . Bro . Hyde Pullen , D . Prov . G . M . and P . M . of No . 204 , then took the chair , and performed the ceremony of installation of Bro . Crisp as W . M ., who appointed and invested as his Officers Bros . Lake , S . W . ; Barnes ,

J . W . ; Matthews , Sec . : Jones , S . D . ; Oldfield , J . D . ; . Rumbelow , I . G . ; and invested Bro . Dashwood , sen ., the Treas . Bro . Hearn , P . D . Prov . G . M ., and the Masters and Wardens , we believe , of all the Lodges in the Province were present , as well as the Brethren of the Minden Military Lodge , at Albany Barracks . It was mentioned that the whole of the property , ornaments , & c , of the " Minden " were , by the chances of war , captured by the Americans , and were restored to the regiment by Washington ; a like accident occurred during the Beninsular war , and they were restored by Napoleon . The Brethren adjourned to banquet , and , numbering nearly fifty , spent a most happy evening .

Newport . —Albany Lodge ( No . 176 ) .- —The Brethren of this Lodge , on the festival of St . John the Evangelist , met in their Masonic Hall , Lugley Street , at two o ' clock , p . m ., for the purpose of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . George Wyatt , of No . 425 , and S . W . No . 126 , Prov . G . SD . The ancient ceremony was impressively worked by the retiring W . M . Bro . J , H . Hearn , assisted by Bro . P . M . Wm . Williams . After the installation , the W . M . Bro . Wyatt , appointed Bro . W . P . Badcliffe , Major of the 20 th regt ., as S . W . ; Bro . Edmund Braithwaite , 31 . P ., J . W . : Bro . Treasurer the Bev . Allan Wallace , M . A ., Chap . ; Bro .

James White , Beg . Bro . Thos . "K entfield , Sec . ; Bro . David Bobottom , S . D . ; Bro . H . Whichcote Manners , Lieut . I . W . A . M ., J . D . ; Bro . P . M . W . W . Way , Sup . Wor . ; Bro . P . M . Bt . Bead , Dir . Cer . ; Bro . J . B . Halls , Org . ; Bros . Philip Bright and George Garland , Stewards ; Bro . Patrick Hennesey , I . G . ; Bro . Wm . Swatheridge , Tyler . After transacting the business of the Lodge , the Brethren repaired to the Star Hotel , where a liberal supply of good cheer graced the festive board .

The W . M . successively gave the healths of " The Queen and the Craft ; ( recalling the fact that the sire of her Majesty was a Brother Mason ( initiated in 1790 ) , and that Masonic blood flowed in her veins ) ; "The Bight Ron . the Earl of Zetland ; " the " Sister Services ; " ( many Freemasons are numbered amongst those gallant men , several of whom were initiated in Lodge No . 176 ); "The Army and Navy / ' responded to by Lieut . Manners ; " The Deputy Grand Master

and Officers of the United Grand Lodge ; " "Brother Thomas Willis Pleming , our Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master , and may Freemasonry flourish in this province during his rule ;' lastly , Bro . Hyde Pullen , D . Prov . G . M .., who having returned thanks , proposed as the toast of the day , the health of the newly-installed Master Bro . Wyatt , of Lodge No . 176 .

The W . M ., in expressing his thanks , avowed that it would be his endeavour to evince his appreciation of the dignity to which he had been appointed , by unremitting attention , and so far as his humble ability served , to faithfully discharge the duties of his office . The W . M ., in speaking of life as a series of changes , gave the history of his own Lodge charter ; the date of the warrant was July , 1777 , its No . 200 , and was first granted to Brethren at Salisbury , Wilts . They held their meetings at the Nine Inn , in that ancient city , and a Brother named Caleb

Dyer was the first Worshipful Master . Tins Lodge appeared to have remained dormant from 1782 , and the warrant surrendered to Grand Lodge , till the 8 th of May , 1801 , when it was transferred to the " Castle and Banner , " near Newport , where Bro . B / ichard Stevens became the Worshipful Master of this Lodge , when first held in the Isle of Wight . In 180 ( 5 it was removed to the " Bed Lion , " in Newport , where it continued until 1815 . On the union of the " two Grand Lodges , " 27 th of December , 1813 , it became No . 24 . 9 ; and by closing up of numbers in 1833 ,, it heeanie No . 170 .
