LANCASHIRE , Blackburn . —Lodge of Fidelity ( No . 336 ) . —The regular meeting of this old and much respected Lodge was held on the evening of Friday , the 4 th of January . After the Lodge had been opened in due form , the Brethren proceeded to the election of W . M . for the ensuing year , when Bro . George Whewell , S . W ., was declared unanimously elected . The W . M . was then installed by Bro . E . Collinson , P . M ., and the following Brethren invested as Officers : —Bros . John

Bro . Whewell , presided on the occasion , assisted by his principal officers , and proposed the various loyal toasts , and afterwards several on Masonic subjects , which elicited the customary fraternal responses from those present . The harmony of the evening was considerably increased by the excellent singing and music of several Brethren , and after the members of the Craft present had given their best wishes to the W . M . during his tenure of office , and had kept up the round of happy enjoyment to a seasonable hour , the meeting broke up highly gratified at the celebration of St . John ' s Festival by the " worthy Masons" of No . 336 .

Lodge of Perseverance ( No . 432 ) . —The monthly gathering of this well-regulated and distinguished Lodge took place on St . John ' s Day , the 27 th Dec . 1855 , when the Festival of St . John the Evangelist was celebrated in a manner which reflected honour on the W . M . and his active and zealous officers . The meeting took place at six o ' clock , in the handsome Lodge-room , which was hung round with the beautiful banners belonging to the Lodge ; and the W . M ., Bro . Charles Boardman , presided , assisted by Bro . H . Backhouse , S . W . ; and Bro . W . Harrison ,

Stelfox , W . II . Sharpies , and Walter Watson . After the Lodge had been duly opened , the Brethren adjourned to the banquetting-room , and did full justice to the recherche and sumptuous dinner provided by the worthy host , Bro . Sansom . After the usual loyal and patriotic toasts had been proposed , a number of Masonic toasts were given and responded to in that cordial and fraternal manner by which the Craft is always characterised . Several excellent and instructive addresses were delivered , on the uses and abuses of Freemasonry , and during the W . M . ' s speech

he took occasion to remark on the laudable intention of this Lodge , to engage at intervals scientific and learned members of the Craft , to deliver lectures on Masonic and kindred subjects , thereby tending to promote the intellectual and elevating pursuits of the Brethren . We wish the Lodge every success in this excellent object and design , and we trust its example will be universally followed ; tho Craft has always been the foremost in art and science , and it is worthily maintaining its position by instituting scientific stances such as these .
