Royal York Lodge ( No . 394 ) . —On Tuesday , Jan . 1 , Bro . Wood , P . M ., St . Mary ' s , No . 76 , was installed in the chair of this Lodge , at the Old Ship Hotel , by Bro . Bell , the Sec . and P . M ., when after an investiture of the officers , the Lodge adjourned for the banquet to the following Tuesday , January 8 , when a numerous meeting of the Brethren assembled . The banquet and wines were supplied by Bro . Bacon , in his usual excellent style , and elicited commendation from all present . The routine toasts were proceeded with , and the evening passed off with the greatest harmony . |

Bro . Lucas , P . M ., in taking the gavel , gave the health of the W . M ., who promised by his zeal , desire , and energy , to resuscitate the Boyal York Lodge , so as to make it second to none in the Craft . The W . M . in responding , said , it was his intention to establish forthwith a Lodge of Instruction , and he felt assured he should have the best support of the P . M . s in so doing ; that during his office he would spare no exertion in promoting

the best interests of the Lodge , and his aim would be to obtain their just approbation , so that on that day twelvemonth , they might be able to say he had satisfactorily done his duty , and that would be to him an ample reward . The W . M , proposed the healths of the visiting Brethren , coupling with it Bro . Hallet , the Mayor of Brighton , who on responding said , though so many years a resident in the town , he had never attended a Lodge in Brighton , and he had done so this day out of regard to his friend Bro . Wood . He had been pleased

with the proceedings , and he hoped that Masonry might long flourish . The W . M .., in proposing the health of the officers , said , he had been solely guided in his choice by selecting those who had experience , zeal , and ability , who promised punctual attendance , and their best assistance in forming a Lodge of Instruction . Bros . P . M . s Bacon and Cherriman had kindly undertaken office , so that with such a staff the year could not pass away without being productive of beneficial results .

[ The Editor of this Magazine begs to acknowledge the courtesy of the Royal York Brethren in inviting him to their banquet , and had the notice reached him in time , he would assuredly have answered it in person . All special papers should be sent to him at 74 , Great Queen-street , some days before the day arranged , and be marked outside " Immediate , " when they will be forwarded to his private residence . ]

WORCESTERSHIRE . Dudley . —Harmonic Lodge ( No . 313 ) .- —The combined attractions offered by this Lodge on the night of Tuesday , the 1 st of January , 1856 , in the shape of the installation of the W . M . elect , and the festival of St . John , did not fail to secure a good muster of the Brethren , in spite of the private parties everywhere given on New Year ' s day .

Lodge was opened at half-past 2 , P . M ., by Bro . Bristow , the W . M . in the Third Degree , when the W . M . elect was regularly installed by Bro . Bristow , the ceremony being conducted in a most admirable manner . It would indeed be a good thing for the Craft , were every immediate B . M . competent to go through the arduous duties of this Degree with like corectness and ability . The W . M . having been dulv acknowledged as such by the Lodge , in the customary manner , Bro .

J . R . Cooper proceeded to invest the following Brethren as his officers for the ensuing year : —Bros . A . Baker , S . W . ; the Rev . J . W . Herbert , J . W . ; M . Dennison , Tr . ; W . Wigginbon , Sec . ; W . Loxton , S . D . ; S . H . Kendrick , J . D . ; and Garner , T . The Steward and Master of the Cermoiiies remain as during Bro . Bristow ' s vear of office .

The question of sending a Steward to the approaching " Boys' festival , " having been again adjourned , Mr . Win . Deakin , iron-merchant , of Tipton , was proposed an a candidate by the J . W ., who prefaced his proposition by some very excellent remarks upon the caution to be observed in recruiting the ranks of Masonry , — qualify being always regarded before quantity . On the motion of the Secretary , seconded by the S . W ., tablets were ordered to be prepared for the Masonic Ballnight , with a list of 313 P . M . s thereon : and on the motion of the W . M ., Bro .
