The income of the society , to the 31 st of October last , amounted to £ 16 , 842 . 5 s . Id . A dividend of 5 per cent , was declared on the paid-up capital , which has been increased by bonuses from £ 2 . to £ 2 . 4 s . per share .

The Gresham Life Assurance Company celebrated the declaration of their first bonus by a dinner at the London Tavern , on the 17 th . The most satisfactory statements were made as to the progress of the Company . The Prince of Wales Life Assurance Company held their annual meeting on the 23 rd . The directors report 833 proposals for the assurance of life , to the amount

of £ 193 , 145 . 14 s . 2 d ., received during the past year ; and 521 policies issued , assuring £ 146 , 286 . lis . 10 d ., and producing premiums amounting to £ 4 , 760 . Id . The progress of the company stands thus : —New business—1852 , £ 3 , 014 . 14 s . 2 d . ; 1853 , £ 4 , 317 . 2 s . 9 d . ;—1854 , £ 5 , 635 . 2 s . Id . ; 1855 , £ 4 , 760 . Id . The losses were explained to have been much below the average , and a dividend of 5 percent , declared .

MISCELLANEOUS . The revenue returns for the quarter ending on the 31 st December show an increase on the quarter , as compared with the corresponding quarter of 1854 , of £ 321 , 475 . The increase of the year was £ 8 , 133 , 396 . The Duke of Cambridge , as the representative of her Majesty , has distributed 16 , 000 medals to soldiers of the French army who were engaged in the Crimea . Mr . Macauley has retired from the representation of Edinburgh , on account of ill health .

The supporters of the Hoyal Free Hospital , Gray ' s-Inn Lane , propose to have a Festival at the Freemasons' Tavern , in the early part of June , to celebrate the inauguration of the statue of our late highly respected Grand Master the Duke of Sussex , which is to be erected in front of the Sussex Wing of that highly useful institution . A Board of Stewards is being formed , consisting of an equal number of Freemasons and other friends of the charity . -a

Messrs . Strahan , Paul , aiid Bates have been removed to the Penitentiary . A petition has been signed by the jurors who tried them , on behalf of the latter prisoner , on the ground that had allegations he now makes as to his only being a clerk in the house 3 without power , "been proved , they would not have convicted him . In the case of Westerton against Liddel , Dr . Lushington has decided against the use of floral ornaments , lights , & c . at the altar . Mr . Lawrence has been elected an alderman of the City of London , in the room of his father , deceased .

Her Majesty has sent a jewelled ornament to Miss Nightingale , accompanied by a very complimentary autograph letter . The accouchement of the Empress of the French is expected to take place towards the close of March .

United Masonic Ball . —A Committee of the Brethren has been organized with the view of giving a grand Masonic Ball at the Freemasons' Tavern on the 12 th March . Bro . Adams ' s band will be engaged , and we look forward to a Yery agreeable reunion .
