It preserves our souls from the corrupting influences of the earth by infusing ; a heavenly spirit that is incorruptible .
u In all ages Freemasons have taught that the word of God is a lamp to the feet of those who will be guided by its light . However rough and rugged may be the way of man , whatever obstacles may impede his steps , yet they who have been brought to the knowledge of this holy volume , ever opened upon our altars , can never materially err . " As then the dead grain revives in a new and glorious form , as the evergreen inculcates lessons of faith and hope amidst the most discouraging circumstances of human life , so this emblem , the salt , carries us forward , but yet higher , towards that goal where faith is lost in sight , and hope ends in fruition .
u In further token of our trust in God , and belief-in His holy word , w e will again exhibit the public grand honours of Freemasonry . They teach us , first , that hope is a sure anchor to our souls ; second , that we will ever abide in the light with which our Heavenly Father so freely supplies us ; third , that the place on which we , stand shall ever be deemed as consecrated ground .
