I do not purpose to ignore the power , " but I deem it . to be wisely conferred ; and the occupier of the throne " is surely not to be debarred from a privilege which is common to us all , viz .: —the counsel and advice of his friends ; and & s his choice would necessarily be guided by his own zeal for the interests of the Craft , such a step tends only to strengthen and advance the legitimate objects of Freemasonry .
Our Prov . Grand Masters , in like manner , consult with their deputies and other influential members of their Lodges on . all Masonic matters . No objections have been raised to such proceedings ; in fact , the prohibition of such a practice would seem to me equally injurious and absurd . The dispute with our Canadian brethren was , I believe , the origin of this protracted contest , and may justly be looked upon as a grievance to be deplored by us all . The cause of this ill fated business was , however , discovered and removed with a frank and noble admission of the errors which
had occasioned it , and although it was then too late to remedy the evil , arrangements were made to ensure us against the repetition of a similar catastrophe . Thus we have obtained all the redress which can be awarded us , and all that can now reasonably be desired , save by such persons who ( faithless to the principles upon which our Order is founded ) cloak party schemes under the title of public interests .
