of this Lodge was held at the Crystal Palace on Thursday , the 7 th instant , the chair , in the absence of the W . M . ( Bro . E . M . Smith ) being occupied by Bro . Watson , P . M . ( No . 23 ) . The Lodge being opened , the minutes ( including a resolution proposed hy the Secretary at the previous meeting , sanctioning the removal of the Lodge from the Longton Hotel to the Crystal Palace ) were read and con firmed , and the sublime degree of M . M . was conferred on Bros . Davison , Bo wen
Strange , and Bennett . The ceremony of passing was then performed , for which distinction Bros , Grimes , Middlemiss , Svendseri ^ Statham , and Muir , were candidates . Mr . S . Pool Acton and Mr . Henry Boberts having been ballotted for , were then introduced and initiated , the whole of the ceremonies being worked in Bro . Watson's usual impressive manner , most ably assisted by Bros . Purbrook and Handford , the Wardens of the Lodge . Bros . Sawyer ( No . 343 ) , Grant ( No . 630 ) , P . W . Erwood ( No . 160 ) , and F . F . Smith ( No . 211 ) , were also elected joining
members . It was then proposed by Bro . H . T . Thompson and carried unanimously that steps be taken for holding a great Masonic demonstration at the Crystal Palace , the profits of which should be divided amongst the Masonic Charities , and that a committee be appointed to confer , with the London Lodges as to the best mode of giving effect to ~ the resolution , ^ The members were then called off to refreshment , and did ample justice to a most excellent repast provided by Bros . Sawyer and Strange , the proprietors of the refreshment department .
The usual loyal and Masonic toasts followed ; Bro . Brett replying for the visitors , passed a very high eulogium on the working of the ceremonies by the officers , and congratulated the members upon the unprecedented success which the Lodge had achieved , and trusted they would maintain the proud position they had acquired . The health of the initiates was responded to by Bro . Roberts , who expressed the
thanks of himself and brother initiate for their unanimous election , and their admiration of the principles upon which the Order is founded . The Lodge resumed and was closed in due form . During the evening , songs by several of the Brethren added much to the enjoyment . Bro . Amos ( Organist of the Lodge ) , presiding at the pianoforte . Amongst the visitors were Bros . Brett , W . M ., No . 228 ; Anslow , P . M .: Boyd , P . M . ; Haydon , P . M . ; Levinsorj , P . M . , and Peck .
INSTRUCTION . Strong- Man Lodge ( No . 53 ) . —This Lodge resumed its meetings at Bro . Morbey ' s , Sun Tavern , Long Acre , on Tuesday , the 5 th instant , under the presidency of the excellent Secretary , Bro . Cottebrune , assisted by various other Brethren . Bro . Morbey has , by the opening of a private door and other improvements , rendered his house one of the hest adapted in London for a Lodge of Instruction , and the members of the Craft may always rely on finding a Brothei present at the meetings on Tuesday evenings ready and willing to afford them help
Confidence Lodge ( No . 228 ) . —A numerous assemblage of the Brethren of this Lodge of Instruction , took place at the Bengal Arms , Birchin Lane , on Wednesday , the 6 th inst , to witness the working of the fifteen sections ; Bro . Moss officiating as W . M . From the efficiency of many members who support this Lodge by their continued presence , it was expected that the lectures would be worked most satisfactorily , and the anticipators were not disappointed . The answers in the first lecture were severally given by Bros . Baker , Daly , Smith , Thompson , Drukker , Brewer , and Brett . In the second hy Bros . Marks , Brett , . Drukker . Anslow , and
Moss . And in the last by Bros . Marks , Anslow , and Moss . In the course of the evening Bro . Newnham , the Secretary of this Lodge , addressed the W . M ., and the Brethren , regretting that from continued illness in his family , and other emergencies , he had beeli obliged to absent himself from the Lodge , and consequently from his duties as Secretary . He therefore placed his resignation in the hands of the W .
