It then affordeda model for twelve or fifteen other manuals published by Hardie , Cole , Cross , Taunehill , Moore , and others , with , sufficient changes in the verbiage and embellishments to entitle them to names respectively ; and , now , after lying in silence for thirty-seven years , it''is reproduced in the handsome form displayed in the copy before us . With a second volume nearly completed , it presents , with the portraits of ten Past Grand Masters , a thorough record of the establishment and progress of the Masonic Craft , in that now populous State . I visited Iowa in 1837 ( scarcely twenty-one years since ) and there was not a Lodge , and but few civilized persons in the
whole territory ; noAvit boasts of a population exceeding a million souls , and exhibits a roll of 130 Masonic Lodges . A monument to Bro . the late General Nathaniel Greene , a hero of the American Revolution , is projected to be erected at Guildford Court House , North Carolina , the site of one of his greatest battles .
The celebrated Williams , of whom so much was said a few years since in relation to the Bourbon question , and who was by many supposed to be the unfortunate child of Louis XVII ., died recently in Western rlew York , and being a Mason , was buried with the funeral rites of the Order . Bro . Rob Morris , late of Lodgeton , now of Louisville , Kentucky , having
announced to his Brethren of the u Rob Morris Encampment 1 ' of Knights Templar at Hickman , Kentucky , his speedy removal—at a convocation of the Sir Knights , held at their Asylum , on the evening of August 21 st , the following Resolutions were unanimously adopted , with a request to the editors of Masonic journals to insert them : —
" Resolved that Sir Knight Rob Morris be declared an honorary member of this encampment for Life . " " Resolved that the thanks of this encampment be tendered to Sir Knight Rob Morris for the very efficient services rendered by him in organizing and sustaining the same , and for the very able , dignified , and courteous manner in -which he has presided over the deliberations and workings of this . encampment from its organization in April , 1855 , to the present time . "
" liesolvcd , that as a slight testimonial of our high appreciation of the long and faithful services rendered by him in the cause of universal Masonry , that he be requested to designate a time convenient to him to meet the members of this encampment ab their banqueting chamber , that an opportunity may be afforded us of participating in a , farewell libation to the future prosperity and happiness of our illustrious Sir Knight . "
By the time you receive this , the season for our Grand Lodge sessions ! will have commenced . Illinois leads off in the race , wherein thirty-six Grand Lodges are entered ; Kentucky is second , opening Oct . 11 th , at Lexington ; Ohio , third , opening at Columbus , the residence of the illustrious Templar Chief , Hon . W . B . Hubbard , Oct . 19 th . Much interesting matter will be added to the literary collections of the institutions through the labours of so many .
