Enoch Lodge ( No . 11 ) . —The usual monthly meeting was held on Wednesday , the 10 th inst ., when four gentlemen were initiated , and four "brethren raised to the sublime degree of M . M . Heavy as this amount of work must be allowed to be , the W . M . Bro . Austin gave unmistakable proof of his proficiency by the manner in which the ceremonies were performed . Careful and impressive in his delivery , Bro . Austin evidently appreciates the beautiful solemnity of our ritual ; and those who seek the privileges of Masonry at his hands cannot fail to catch something of that earnestness of feeling and purpose which so peculiarly
characterize him . On motion duly proposed and seconded it was unanimously resolved that a jewel of the value of £ 5 5 s . be presented to the immediate P . M ., Bro . W . J 8 . Masterman for the zeal he had displayed in the discharge of his duties during his year of office , especially in having served the stewardship of each of the three charities . All business ended , the brethren adjourned to refreshment , the banquet being supplied in a style that gave unqualified satisfaction . The visitors were Bro . Jaques , P . M . No . 30 , and W . G-. Koss , JNTo . 220 , Scotland , the latter of whom treated the company with some of his unrivalled comic delineations , Bro . George Tedder contributing several favourite songs .
. Fortitude and Old Cumberland Lodge ( No . 12 ) . —This Lodge held its usual monthly meeting at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Monday , March 8 , when the W . M ., Bro . Ward , was early at his post , and the Lodge was duly opened . Bro . the Count Henri De Lavit was examined as to his proficiency in Masonry as an entered apprentice ; and in spite of the difficulties he had to encounter in making out the meaning of questions put in a foreign language , and of rendering his answers in English , replied with such earnestness and zeal and in terms so unmistakably to the purpose , that he was highly complimented on the progress he
had made in the mystic art , and was passed to the 2 nd Degree as one well qualified for preferment . Mr . Cassidy was then balloted for as a candidate for the mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry , and the result announced as unanimous in his favour . Bro . Marriott , P . M . and Treas ., gave an explanation of the Tracing Board of the 2 nd Degree in a manner not to be excelled , as all will understand who know him as a working Mason . The W . M . afterwards worked the first and second sections of the first Lecture . The Secretary read a communication from the committee of the Girls' School , asking for the appointment of a steward to
represent the Lodge at the forthcoming festival , and the W . M . asked if any meinber would volunteer , when the J . W ., Bro . Picard , immediately offered his services , which were accepted . The W . M . here stated , that as a matter of courtesy he had asked for a volunteer , and as one had been obtained , he should defer his own intention of serving in that capacity till the following year . Some conversation then took place relative to the non-receipt of the uRual communication from the committee of the Boys' School , and Bro . Picard stated that ho had intended to offer himself this year as a Steward for that charity also , The Secretary
