Taylor ( who presided at the piano ) , and Nimmo , whose buffo songs were much admired .
Lodge of United Strength ( No . 276 ) .- —The usual monthly meeting of this rapidly-increasing Lodge was held on Tuesday , March 9 th , at St . John ' s Gate , Gierkenwell , when Mr . Thomas Foster was ably initiated into the Order , after which the ceremonies of passing and raising were worked in an efficient manner . The Brethren then adjourned to the ancient hall of the Knights Hospitallers , where Bro . Benjamin Foster served a capital banquet in his accustomed style , at which the new W . M ., Bro . John Coggin , presided , and after spending a very agreeable evening , the Brethren separated in perfect harmony .
Lodge of Confidence ( No . 288 ) . —This Lodge held a meeting at Bro . Clemow ' s , Ariderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , on Monday , March 8 th , and there was a very good muster of Brethren . Bro . Gumming , W . M . presided , and performed the ceremony of raising a Brother to the Degree of M . M . After which it was proposed that ten guineas should be voted from the Lodge funds , further aided by
a subscription from the members , for the purpose of presenting a testimonial to Bro . Rogers , P . M ., who had zealously and faithfully discharged the duties of Secretary to their Lodge for many successive years . The proposition was well received , and the result will , no doubt , be commensurate with the good feelings entertained towards the worthy Brother .
Polish National Lodge ( No . 778 ) . —The usual meeting was held at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Thursday the 11 th inst ., on which occasion , owing to the unavoidable absence of the W . M . Bro . Samuels , the chair was taken by Bro . Johnstone , P . M ., who , with his accustomed ability , raised Bro . Williams to the sublime degree of M . M . There being no other business before the lodge , the brethren then adjourned , by special resolution , until the second Thursday in May .
Yarborotjgh Lodge ( No . 812 ) . —At the usual meeting , held at Bro . Williams s , the George Hotel , Commercial-road East , on Thursday , the 4 th inst ., present , Bro . William James Crisp , W . M ., and a full attendance of Officers , Past Masters , and Brethren , Messrs . Morton , Kinipple , and Halbert were initiated ; the Bev . Bro . II . Douglas was passed to the second degree , and Bro . Bead was raised . Pursuant to a resolution unanimously adopted at the Lodge holden on the 7 th of
January , the W . Bro . William Went worth Davis , Past Treasurer , was presented by the W . M . with a copy of a vote of thanks on that day passed to him in acknowledgment of having faithfully and zealously discharged the office of Treasurer , during a period of six years . The vote of thanks was handsomely illuminated on vellum , and framed . The frame was appropriately decorated with Masonic emblems .
