difficulty of there being a want of time for giving notice relative to an augmentation of any giVen grant ; because they must recollect that the Board of Benevolence and the Board of Masters would be composed on such occasions of almost identically the same brethren , and the various Wardens of Lodges and country
Brethren who could not be present at the Board of Masters , but who were members of Grand Lodge , would be deprived of the exercise of their right of moving for an augmentation of a grant if they thought it desirable , they being in possession of facts which might lead Grand Lodge to the same opinion , though there might have been no opportunity of bringing them before the Board of Benevolence .
Bro . Symonds supported the motion on the ground that it was not curtailing the powers of Grand Lodge , but merely more clearly denning the existing law ; as the M . W . G . M . had on the last occasion told them that it was only in accordance with usage that a resolution for an augmentation to a grant of money could be brought forward without notice . Bro . Singer must oppose the resolution as unnecessarily tying the hands of Grand Lodge .
The B . W . D . G . M . believed it was not often that votes were influenced by the arguments in deliberative assemblies ( laughter ) , bu t lie admitted his opinions had been swayed by the objections urged by Bro . Savage , and requested Bro , Havers to withdraw his motion . Bro . Havers could not resist a request so urged , and withdrew his motion , which he had only brought forward believing it would tend to the convenience of Grand Lodge . It being now past eleven o ' clock , the proceedings terminated , and the Grand Lodge was closed in ample form and with solemn prayer .
