' —The usual quarterly meeting of this Chapter was held , January 27 , under the presidency of Comps . Pike , Z . ; Cruttenden , H . ; and Cooke / J . The ceremony of exaltation was performed in a most impressive manner . It is highly creditable to this young Chapter , and to the preceptorship of Comp . Keddell , P . Z ., of Sheerness , that so soon after its
birth it should be able to < c run alone , " as it were . This should be a lesson to some other Chapters in the provinces , where the whole business is at a standstill unless a Companion froni London be present . After the working the Companions sat down to an elegant repast provided by the host of the Star . Amongst the toasts of the evening , that of Comp . Keddell was given with great heartiness and respect ; and duly responded to by that distinguished Mason ,

MAEK MASONRY .
( UNDER SCOTTISH CONSTITUTION . ) St . Mabk ' s Lodge ( No . 1 ) . —The members of this Lodge met at the Freemasons ' Tavern on Wednesday , "February 24 . The interesting ceremony of advancing five Brethren to this degree was most ably performed by the K . W . Bro . Hughes , assisted by Bro . Adams , S . W ., and the rest of the Officers . The R . W . Bro . Hughes , in the course of the evening , took occasion to explain to the newlyadvanced Brethren , that this most ancient and integral part of Freemasonry had , for some unaccountably reason , been omitted at the time of the union and
accommodation between the Grand Lodges of York and London , but had never ceased to be in full working in every other part of the world ; that he himself , in conjunction with Bros . Warren and Sharman , finding a great inconvenience in the want of this degree when travelling , had , with considerable pains , endeavoured to introduce its constitutional working in this country , and congratulated the Brethren on its unexampled success , and also thanked those Brethren who had been the means of founding other most prosperous Mark Lodges , for their steady allegiance to this their mother Lodge .

Colohestek , —Temple Crossing Encampment . —At a meeting of this Encampment , held at the George Hotel , on the 24 th February , Sir ICnt . H , L . Maydwcll was unanimously re-elected E . C ., and Sir Knt . W , Marriott , Treas , In the absence of tho E . C ., . Sir Knt . J . D . Forbes , P . E . C ., presided . The installation of the E . G ., and the appointment of Officers , will take place on the 23 rd of April , being St . George ' s-day , on which occasion the Knights will dine together , when they will be pleased to see any visiting Knights , Oxford . —Encampment of Cceur de Lion .- —The usual quarterly meeting was held at the Masonic Hall on February 24 , when the E .
