Bro . Strange having given proof of his proficiency , was passed to the Degree of F . C . The immediate P . M ., Bro . Jas . Powell , jun ., explained the Tracing-board of the 2 nd Degree with his accustomed ability . The Lodge having resumed to the 1 st Degree , the W . M . reminded those Brethren who were subscribers to the Royal Benevolent Fund for the Relief of aged and indigent Freemasons ., that their subscriptions were due , and took occasion to
enlarge upon the merits of the institution , which he contended deserved a more general recognition from the members of the Craft than it received ; the result of the appeal was an addition of eight new subscribers . Bro . James Powell , jun . P . M ., then appealed to the Brethren to aid the Coal Institution ( a valuable local charity for supplying coals to the poor at a reduced rate ) whose funds were at a low ebb ; it not being considered advisable to vote a sum from the Lodge funds , a collection was made , resulting in an amount of two pounds . The Lodge closed in perfect harmony .
