Bankart . Mr . Merewether being in attendance , was initiated into Freemasonry according to ancient form , the ceremonies of the Lodge being most efficiently performed by the several Officers ; and the manner in which the duties of the Lodge were conducted received a well merited tribute of praise from the Brethren of the bar who were present . Bro . Brew in , Jun . ( a very young Mason ) gave the lecture on the Tracing-board in most admirable style . Bro . T . Bell , of the Midland Circuit , was to have been passed to the degree of a Fellow Craft , but was
detained in town by his professional engagements . After the business of the Eodge was concluded , the Brethren were called off to refreshment , when a large party sat down to supper , and spent a very agreeable evening , the D . Prov . G . M . again presiding . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given and responded to , the healths of the newly initiated Brother , and of the Visitors being duly honoured , and in reply the legal Brethren expressed a hope that although it was the first occasion on which they had been invited to meet their Leicestershire Brethren in lodge , it might be only the first of many such pleasant reunions .
LINCOLNSHIRE . Louth . — -Lindsey Lodge ( No . 1014 ) . — On Wednesday this increasing Lodge held its regular meeting , at the Public Building . The Eev . B . J . Wood , rector of Euckland , near Louth , presided as W . M . Among the business transacted was the balloting for , and election of Messrs . E . Henshall , J . H . Whalley , and D . H * Buntz , all of Great Grimsby , a few miles from Louth , who were subsequently initiated in a right masterly manner . Bro . E . H . Clarke , also of Grimsby , was
raised to the 2 nd Degree , in the usual solemn and impressive manner . Amongst those present was Bro . Whitfield ., Oak Lodge No- 225 , London , who had been balloted for and elected a joining member . It maybe suhject for remark , that so many gentlemen join the Lindsey Lodge from Great Grimsby , and so comparatively ~ few from the town in which the Lodge is situate , It may be accounted for in two ways . The influence for good wielded by the Earl of Yarborough in every way in his power influences Freemasonry . Not that his lordship has violated , or would violate , the rules and principles of the Craft as to accession of
members to the numbers already in being , but his example is naturally followed by those who know him . Bro . Marshall , of Grimsby , too , is loudly spoken of by the Brethren there for his excellent tuition of the newly initiated Brethren . It would be well if the Louth people could be spoken of in like manner . But as it is a recognised principle in the Craft not to solicit members , they must e ' en be left ¦ " to their own imaginings . " It would be scarcely right not to add a word of encomium on the attention paid to the comfort of the Brethren when they retire "from labour to refreshment , " by Mrs . Mitchell , of the Mason ' s Arms Hotel , widow of our late Bro . Mitchell .
