leges of the Craft . Bro . Tardrew , P . M . and Prov . G . Treas ., who is the oldest P . M . of the Lodge , was then requested by the W . M . to undertake the pleasing duty of presenting a testimonial to Bro . W . H . Cole , and on that Brother being requested to approach the dais , Bro . Tardrew addressed him in the most kind and flattering terms , stating that the fact of Bro . Cole being about to leave the Principality , and consequently their Lodge , for London , caused them the greatest regret , because they had always experienced the benefit of his services in every way that he could render them ; and Bro . Cole being but a young Mason , having been initiated in this Lodge only two or three years since , the energies in the cause of
Masonry , and the knowledge of the Craft which he had displayed , were not only gratifying to this , his mother Lodge , but must also be gratifying to all who had the good of the Order at heart . Bro . Cole was an example which the younger Brethren . would do well to follow ; and he ( Bro . Tardrew ) could only say that , for his own part , he was proud of being an old P . M . of the Lodge which had initiated so worthy a Brother int : > the Order , because the fact of his being the oldest member of the Lodge had placed him in the proud position he then occupied as the P . M . chosen by the Lodge to present this testimonial . Bro . Tardrew then , in the name of the Lodge and the other Brethren who had subscribed , presented Bro . Cole with a magnificent P . M / s jewel . The jewel was of
massive gold ( with the emblems on blue enamel ) , surrounded by a beautiful wreath of precious stones , set in the form of an ear of corn and sprig of acacia , and was suspended by the square and compass exquisitely chased . The clasps on the ribbon were also beautifully designed , the principal one being in the shape of a serpent , with the five-pointed star in blue enamel in its folds ; and the following inscription was engraven on the reverse of the jewel :- —" Presented to Bro . Wm . Hy . Cole by the Brethren of St . Peter ' s Lodge ( No . 699 ) , Carmarthen , as a token of their regard and esteem , and a slight acknowledgment of the valuable services rendered them by him . —19 th March , 1858 . " Bro . Tardrew , on placing it on Bro . Cole ' s breast , wished him a long life to wear it ; and Bro . W . G . S . Thomas , then addressed Bro . Cole very eloquently , and stated that every word uttered
b y Bro . Tardrew was but an echo of the feelings of the Lodge . The interesting ceremony was then concluded by Bro . Tardrew presenting Bro . Cole with an address beautifully written on vellum , with the names of all the Brethren who were subscribers to the testimonial , among whom we were glad to see the names of members of Lodges Nos . 32 ( London ) , 288 ( Swansea )* 525 ( Pembroke Dock ) , 699 ( St .
