METROPOLITAN CHAPTERS . Cyrus Chapter ( No . 21 ) . —This Chapter held a convocation on Tuesday , the 23 rd inst ., at the London Coffee-house , Ludgate-hill . There were present Comps . F . I . Marillier as M . E . Z . ; E . Burrell , H . ; and Lavender , J . Comp . the Rev . J . G . Wood , of the Alfred Chapter , Oxford , No . 425 , having been unanimously elected a joining member , took his seat accordingly . Bro . G . Russell , of the \ St * Paul ' s Lodge , So . 228 , having been unanimously elected , and being present , was
exalted to the supreme Degree of a Royal Arch Mason , the three Principals performing their respective parts in a very able manner . A further appointment of officers took place , when pomp .. Lambert was appointed to the office of N ., Comp , Tyerman to that of Assistant S ., and Comp . Wood to the office of Chaplain . Amongst those present were Comps . Leonard Chandler and Thomas Reynolds White , both officers in the Grand Chapter of England ; Comps . T . S . Barringer , J .. N . Bainbridge , Af . i ) . ; Comp . Young and another visitor , and several other Companions .
Robert Bums CJiapier ( No . 25 . )—This Chapter , well known for the excellence of its working , and the high Masonic talent of many of its members , held a Convocation on the 22 nd inst ., at the Freemasons' Tavern—a large number of companions being early in the Chapter . The business of the evening was unusually heavy , comprising installation of Principals , appointment of Gfflcers , & c ., and the exaltation of several members of the Craft . The Chapter being duly opened , the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed , after which Comps . Henry Carpenter and Thomas Allan were installed as 1 st and 2 nd Principals . Comp ,
Hewlett , who was elected at the last meeting as 3 rd Principal , being unavoidably absent , his installation stands over . The other Officers appointed were as follows : — Comps . W . Watson , Scribe E . ; F . Frampton , Scribe N . ; C . Harrison , P . S . ; R . Collard and John Dyte , Asst . S . ; and E . Guest , Steward . The ceremony of installation being completed , Bros , the Rev . J . Laxighlin , Chaplain and S . D . No . 201 ; Woodstock , J . D . No . 219 ; Barnshaw , No . 752 ; Loat , No . 25 ; Stevens , J . D . No , 9 ; and Swainston , I . G . No . 201 , were introduced and exalted as Royal Arch Masons . After which Comp . Kirby , the immediate T . Z ., was presented with a
handsome jewel , as a mark of respect and appreciation of the manner in which he had performed the duties of M . E . Z . during the past year . Several propositions were made for the next meeting , including Comp . Maney , Chapter 11 , to join , and Bro . Graham , of Lodge No . 219 , for exaltation . All business disposed of , the Chapter was closed with solemn prayer , the Brethren afterwards adjourning to supper , which was well served and gave great satisfaction . The usual routine of toasts was observed , among which the M . E . Z . proposed their recently exalted Companions , and said that all the Brethren who had become associated with them that evening , were well known as zealous and able Masons ; it was most pleasing
to have such additions to Arch Masonry . The Companions would pardon him if he particularized the Rev . Comp . Laughlin , who had done them the honour to seek this Chapter for his exaltation to Arch Masonry . It was at all times gratifying to have the good opinion of the clergy in any transaction of life ; but when the ministers of religion joined with thiem in the work of Freemasonry , it surely must set at rest the ill-natured remarks of those who reviled an Order they knew nothing of . The Rev . Companion returned thanks , and said , that early in life he had an intuitive idea of Freemasonry , for in his studies he found that many allusions were made to the Order , both directly and indirectly , by old authors .
