St . Thomas ' s Lodge ( No . 166 ) . — -The monthly meeting of this Lodge was held at the Freemasons' Tavern on Saturday , the 6 th instant . The Lodge having been opened and closed in due form , there being no other business , the Brethren adjourned to a banquet provided by Messrs . Elkington and Co . in their usual style of liberality . The W . M ., Bro . John Archer , contributed much to the harmony of a delightful evening by his urbane , able , and eloquent manner of presiding . The visitors were Bros . Morris , P . M . No . 66 ; and J , T . Archer , P . M . No . 108 , and No . 183 .
Phoenix Lodge ( No . 202 ) . —A very agreeable meeting of this Lodge was held at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Saturday , Marcel 3 th , Bro . Burton , P . M ., presiding , in consequence of the unavoidable absence , from illness in his family , of Bro . Barton , W . M . After the dispatch of business the Brethren adjourned to banquet and spent a very pleasant evening . Amongst the visitors we observed Bros . Binckes , P . M . No . 11 ; Masson , No . 11 ; Jones , P . M . No . 76 ; T . A . Adams , P . M . Nos . 196 and 206 ; T . L . Holt , No . 169 , and various professional Brethern The harmony of the evening was much enhanced by the musical exertions of Bros . George Genge , Smythson , T . Williams , Shoubridge , Beuler , and C . Sloman .
Domatic Lodge ( No . 206 ) . —The usual monthly meeting was held on Monday , March 8 th , at the Masonic Hall , Fetter-lane . Bro . Brett , the W . M ., was in the chair , and was supported by his respective officers ; and , we need hardly say , that all the business was done in a most workmanlike manner . There were two initiations , Mr . Henry Thompson and Mr . Alexander Mason MacDougal ; and four raisings , Bros . Wake , Jones , Longstaff , and Don-hue . " Business being ended ,
the Brethren adjourned to the banqueting-hall , where Bro . Ireland had laid tables for about fifty . The cloth having been removed , the W . M . gave the usual Masonic toasts , which were heartily drank . The visitors , eight in number , were represented by Bro . Adlard , P . Prov . Dir . of Cers ., Essex ; and the P . Ms , by Bro . Carpenter ; while Bro . Smith , Grand Purs , and Treas . of the Lodge , earnestly impressed upon the Brethren the claims of the Annuity Fund for Aged Masons and their Widows . A most harmonious and pleasant evening was spent .
St . James ' s Union Lodge ( No . 211 ) . —This highly influential Lodge held the regular monthly meeting at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Tuesday , the 19 th instant , Bro . P . Crofton , W . M ., presiding , supported by Bros . John Gurton and Leyser , P . Ms , also by Bros . Stacey and Aley , S . and J . Ws , and the rest of the officers . Lodge being opened in due form , the minutes of the last meeting were read and received confirmation . After which , Bros . Bea , Hart , Beck , and Deane , being in attendance , were passed to the Degree of Fellow Craft . This was followed by Bros . Martin , Duddridge , Swann , Francis , and Robinson , being introduced and raised
to the Master Masons' Degree . Two gentlemen , Messrs . Thomas W . Sedgwick and Frederick Fitch Smith , were then balloted for , and initiated into Freemasonry . Bro . Cartell being proposed as a joining member by Bros . Harrison and Dethier , was balloted for and duly elected . The whole of the ceremonies were most perfectly and effectively performed by the W . M . The business of the Lodge ended , it was declared closed until the second Tuesday in April . The Brethren then adjourned to an excellent banquet , to which ample justice being done , the W . M . gave the loyal and . Masonic toasts , which were received with
the usual amount of enthusiasm . The Master then proposed the Visitors , Bros . Cokraft , No . 166 ; Bobinson , No . 157 ; B . Davis , No . 14 ; and Archer , W . M ., No . 166 , who returned thanks , and said he never experienced a greater treat than in witnessing the Lodge working of this evening . The W . M . was well up to his work , and performed the duties in a manner to afford instruction to many presiding Masters ; and if , in the olden time , it had been said that such a vast amount
of work could be performed , in one Lodge on one night , namely , five raisings , four passings , and two initiations—this being of late anything but a solitary instanceit would have been received as incredible . It was certain that a good Master made good Officers , and that good Officers made good Masons . He would conclude by wishing prosperity to the St . James ' s Union .
