( No . 959 ) , Seaham . After the usual business of the evening had been concluded , the duties of which were efficiently performed by the W . M ., assisted by the S . W ., the Brethren were summoned to refreshment , wlien the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given and respectively honoured . The evening was considerably enlivened by the vocal abilities of several of the Brethren , and the remarks of the W . M ., and P . Ms Yeshach , Hidley , Levy , and Nay lor .
The St . Hilda Chapter is expected to be formally consecrated next month ( April ) , with Comps . H . B . Ridley ( P . Prov . J . G . W . ) as Z . ; A . Davis ( Prov . G . D . C . ) asH . ; and W . H . Franklin ( Prov . S . G . IX ) as J . On Wednesday ( March 10 ) , about forty of the brethren connected with the Lodge attended the funeral of their late lamented Brother , John Harrison , to their final resting-place , at the cemetery , North Shields . The deceased was captain of the brig Nairns , of South Shields , which was unfortunately wrecked
near Amble , Northumberland , during the storm which raged on the north-east coast , on Monday , March 1 st , when all but two of the crew ( one of them the brother of the deceased , and the cabin-boy ) met with a watery grave . The deceased was a member of St . Hilda ' s Lodge , having been initiated in January , 1854 ; and his untimely death , at the early age of twenty-nine , has cast a melan--choly gloom over the neighbourhood , especially among his seafaring friends , by whom he was much respected for his heroic qualities as a mariner and his generous disposition .

Winchester . — -Lodge of Economy ( No . 90 ) . —The unfortunate differences which have of late agitated the minds of our Masonic Brethren at home and abroad , have awakened a spirit of inquiry into the causes , and have produced much discussion
upon matters which , at one time , were but little thought of by the Members of this Lodge , but who now feel great interest in watching how the affairs of Grand Lodge are conducted . In order to arive at something like a right conclusion , they have passed a by-law making it an imperative duty on the W . M . to attend all quarterly communications of Grand Lodge , and to inform the members of what has taken place on his return . His travelling expenses are to be borne by the Lodge , and if it should so happen the W . M . is prevented attending by illness or other
emergency , he is to appoint one of the Wardens or a P . M . to take his place . The day of meeting of this Lodge is altered , as will be seen by the following resolution proposed at the Lodge meeting in February , and confirmed at the meeting in March . Proposed by Bro . Sherry , seconded by Bro . Hasleham—That as the papers of the business to be brought before Grand Lodge at the quarterl y communications , are now ordered to be placed in the hands of tlia W . Ms , of all
provincial as well as metropolitan Lodges ten days previous to their meetings , it is expedient that the members of the Lodge of Economy No . 90 alter thoir day of meeting , from the second to the last Wednesday in the month , in order to discuss such business , that the opinions in this Lodge may be properly represented by the W .
