At the conclusion of business the Lodge was closed , and the Brethren adjourned to the Public Hall recently erected at Newchurch , where a cold collation was provided , consisting of every
luxury of the season . After dinner "Non Nobis Domine , " was sung by an efficient choir engaged for the occasion , consisting of Bros . Edmondson , Clegg , Wrigley , and Moxon . The usual loyal , patriotic , and Masonic toasts having been cordially received , the Prov . G . Chaplain rose to propose " The Health of the D . Prov . G . M . Bro . Royds , " He had known Bro . Royds many years , and had learned that to know was to respect him . A better Mason did not breathe , and whether as banker , soldier , or Mason , he was an ornament to any profession .
Bro . Royds , who was enthusiastically received , said his feelings would not allow him to thank the Brethren as he could wish , but this he would say , that if he could only be serviceable to the Craft in any way , show him how , and he would do it . Some years ago he had purchased an estate in a neighbouring county , and went there unknown to any one , but such were the principles of Masonry that he was now proud to tell them that he held the same position in the Craft in that Province as in East Lancashire .
Bro . Pollitt , Prov . G . Reg , then proposed ma most telling and practical speech , " Success to the Masonic Charity established in East Lancashire . " He was happy to congratulate the Brethren on the success which had attended their efforts on this head . Three years ago and the charity was a thing of the future , now it was a splendid reality . They had that day resolved to elect , at their next meeting * , one or more annnitants ., in addition to the many who were receiving grants from the benevolent fund , and he was proud to say that the funds were in such a
position that there was no fear of their being able to carry out for life any annuities that might be then granted . The D . Prov . G . M . said that although it was not in the printed list of toasts which lie held in his hand , still there was one which he coidd not help proposing , and which he knew the Brethren would receive as it deserved , he alluded to the health of a P .
