that much of the success which had attended their meeting that day was attributable to his exertions ; he had set a good example , which he trusted would be often followed up , viz ., that of receiving the Prov . Grand Lodge to luncheon at his own house , previous to the meeting , and had entertained them in a manner they had no right to expect . He believed Bro . Munn ' s heart was in the good cause , and he called on the Brethren to drink his health , and couple with it that of Mrs . Munn .
Bro . Munn , who was greeted with loud cheers , thanked the Brethren for the kind reception they had accorded him ; he could assure them that it was his greatest wish to be of service to the Craft . It had been a source of the greatest gratification , both to Mrs . Munn and himself , to receive the Provincial Grand Officers on that morning , and he was much pleased that the arrangements generally had met with the approbation of the visiting Brethren . If his small efforts in the cause of Masonry could in any way contribute to its success he should indeed feel more than satisfied .
The healths of " The Ladies , " and ' . ' " All Poor and Distressed Masons" were also duly honoured , and the choir , accompanied by the Prov . G . Org ., gave several excellent glees , & c , during the evening , after which all the Brethren separated at an early hour , deligbted with the pleasant and convivial evening they had spent in the picturesque locality of Rossendale . Hibbert and a number of other Brethren to hold a Masonic Lodge at Chorley , to be called " The Ellesrnere Lodge , No . 1032 , " a number of Brethren , including visitors from Manchester , Liverpool , Bolton , & c , assembled at Bro . Sansom ' s , the Red Lion Inn , on Wednesday , the 3 rd instant , in order to consecrate the said Lodge , and afterwards to instal Bro . Henry Hibbert as W . M . The Lodge having been opened in form , Bro . Hamer , of Worlton , Prov . G . Dir . of Cers . for West Lancashire , took the chair , assisted by Bro . Lambert , P . M . No . 889
Southport , who was appointed to the office of Director of Ceremonies for the occasion ; the Lodge was then solemnly dedicated to the G . A . O . T . U . according to ancient custom . The solemn ceremony appeared to make a deep impression upon the Brethren present . Bro . Hibbert was afterwards installed W . M . for the ensuing year amidst the applause of the Brethren . The Lodge was then adjourned to partake of an excellent banquet provided by Bro . Sansom , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given , and a happy evening spent in harmony and brotherly love .
Middleton . —Imperial George Lodge ( No 92 ) . —This old Lodge , removed some years ago from Guildford-street , Russell-square , London , to the Assheton Arms , Middleton , near Manchester , mustered in full force at the latter place on Thursday evening , the 4 th instant , when Messrs . Greaves , Richardson , and Whitehead were initiated into the Order . The Lodge was opened at 7 o ' clock by Bro . Brookes , W . M ., assisted by Bros . H . Gregson , P . M . ; E . Thompson , S . W . ; J . Collinge , J . W . ; A .. Ashton , S . D . ; R . Davies , J . D . ; J . Wood , I . G . ; and R . Fogg , Tyler .
The W . M ., and Bros . Mattinson , P . M ., and Baldwin , W . M ., Caledonian Lodge , Manchester , severally initiated , being materially aided by Bro . Hayes , P . M ., who acted as Deacon ; after which Bro . Mattinson addressed the candidates collectively . The Lodge being closed , the Brethren adjourned to a sumptuous banquet prepared under the able direction of Bro . Harrison . Wc noticed amongst the visitors , Bros . J . H . P . Leresche , S . W . Caledonian Lodge , Manchester ; Nathan , Edge , and Caffey , of the same Lodge ; Abraham H . Stott , and John Hirst , of the
Friendship Lodge , No . 314 , Oldham , & c . & c . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts had been duly introduced by the W . M ., Bro . T . Mattinson , P . M ., rose , and , calling for the best attention of the Brethren to that subject which the ' W . M . bad been pleased to request him to introduce to their notice , said that he had the high honour to belong to one of the oldest lodges in the important province of East Lancashire , —the Imperial George , No . 92 , and a proud moment was it for him . in reassuming for the nonce the gavel of the W . M , to present a testimonial on the 2 i 2
